I have a whole shelf full of vegan cookbooks and most of them get used for only a couple of recipes, but this book is outstanding. Every recipe I have tried so far has been great and even more importantly, my picky kids love them too. This afternoon I made the brownies and they are to die for. I have been trying different brownie recipes for years ever since I became vegan and all of them have been disappointing but these are really the best brownies I have ever tasted. The recipes in this book are exciting without being weird or requiring a whole range of hard to get ingredients. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

I initially bought The Artful Vegan because of the gorgeous photography in it. The first recipe I tried cooking was the 'Mediterranean 5-Lentil and kale soup with Walnut gremolata'. I didn't know what a gremolata was, but that was no biggie- I could tell from the ingredients that it would be yummy! Living near Brighton, I'm also kind of used to posh veggie food- this is actually less pretentious (and, I think, more delicious) [..] our local equivalent. Anyway, I didn't actually cook any other recipes, because the soup was so delicious I had to cook it again and again over the winter!

This really is a very useful DVD (this is a review of the DVD only, as I wasn't able to get hold of the accompanying book). I won't lie, very expensive and hard to get hold of in a format for the UK and Europe, but I am glad I spent the money.
Nothing hokey or dogmatic, just a very healthy, soft-spoken woman, teaching a 'cooking' class to two women, who ask loads of questions and eat the food she prepares. Cohen loves raw foods cooking and her enthusiasm is infectious without being cloying or overdone.
I finally can see with my own eyes how some of the recipes and preparation skills I read about in raw foods 'cookery' books are made. They are *so* much easier than reading about them makes them seem. A lot less daunting.
