This is a real winner; I would never have thought my 8 month old would be eating curries, but he has loved every single recipe I have cooked in this book so far. I've not stopped cooking since I got it! It has made catering for the family so easy; I just double the ingredients to make enough to batch freeze for my son, and a meal for the 3 of us. I honestly think my vegetarian diet has improved as a result of this book. I would recommend it to everyone, meat eaters included.

I disagree with the review below on the child rearing parts of this book which I found very down to earth and sensible. As a mother of three I read this when pregnant with my first child and thought both the recipes (lots suggestions for adapting for toddlers) and other child rearing info useful. Rose Elliot suggests keeping toys in bottom drawers and accessible places and things you don't want broken out of reach - much bettr than not adapting your house and trying to say "no" to a difficult two year old I would have thought.

I've bought lots through Amazon over the years and this is the first time I've felt strongly enough to write a review. I've no complaints about the information in this book, but I found the tone and style so offputting that I stopped reading after a couple of chapters and have given it away. I guess I like the 'rough guide to pregnancy' style, which is peer-to-peer, modern, informative and amusing - in contrast this title felt like I'd gone back in time with traditional black ... Read More:

This book was recommended to me when my children were very small.I'm not vegetarian, but wholfood minded. We all loved the home baking recipes for cakes and biscuits that really are GOOD for you and taste SCRUMMY! My children are now in their twenties, but still remember the goodies from Rose Elliot's book. I lent my copy out and never got it back - I NEED another copy!! I want to make crunchy bars and eggless fruit cake again!
