I bought this book because, although I don't have heart disease, I do have a family history of heart disease on both sides of the family. Having read the book, I decided to follow the nutrition plan for a trial period of 3 months. I am six weeks into that trial period now and it hasn't been too hard to follow although I would admit I have deviated from it on 4 or 5 meals during the six weeks so I haven't followed it absolutely rigidly. I took my blood cholesterol today. My previous 10 readings were all between 4.4mmol/L(170mg/dL) and 6.9mmol/L (265mg/dL) but after six weeks on this plan I recorded my lowest ever reading of 2.5mmol/L (~95mg/dL) and my ratio of total cholesterol to HDL was 4 which is well within the healthy range.
This book is a little gem; easy, quick recipes for any ability. The good thing about this book is that it does not treat raw eating as a prescription-like regime. This elavates it over myriad diet/lifestyle books for the health obsessed reacting to the latest health scare or diet fad in circulation! The authors, (a mother and daughter team) have a very personable style, referring often to their herb gardens, vegetable plots and blissful family meals--positively Darling Buds of May! The version I have was written twenty years ago and I hope it hasn't been updated for the 21st century! The food is great, plenty of inspiration, 99% of the ingredients used were familiar which is always a good sign and it's easily the best recipe book I ... Read More:

As a new-comer to vegetarian eating, I was concerned that my body would not be getting all the essentials it required. I need not have worried, as my friend bought this beautifully-illustrated book for me.

She describes what to look for when shopping for them, how to store them, and the best preparation method for each to retain the maximum benefit to health.
The recipe section of the book contains detailed, illustrated instructions for the whole range of meals from snacks to more formal dining; ... Read More:

If you are looking for excellent raw cuisine, or if you are interested in great vegan recipes, try this book. Having experimented with both for 20 years, I find this book to be among the best in either genre. Almost every recipe I've tried is truly noteworthy, but the living foods recipes stand out as both delicious and easy to prepare. Highly recommended -- by someone who is not big on angels, but who loves to eat well, and hates a lot of prep.

Having benn a veggie for nearly 15 years I am delighted that there are still some tricks to learn! I bought this book a few years ago with good intentions but a distrust of how tasty low fat food could be meant it was left unopened on the shelf until my partner and I embarked on a serious diet.....and wow I wish I had looked at it sooner.
My other half (being a non-vegetarian) has been more than complimentary about the recipies and has mentioned how much easier it has been to stick to the diet when the food tates as good as it does. (and I think a comment like that from a meat eater is the best recomendation a veggie cookbook can have!)
It would have been nice to have more pictures (as with most cookbooks)and I wish it was ... Read More:
