In our house it's called the Great Big Book of Everything. My son is five and we have this book for a couple of years. Thoroughly recommended.

I am a Grand Ma and improved my Grand Ma ratings with all my grand children when I gave this to a 7 year old for Christmas. Cool, awsome, and other such things that are not often associated with Grand Ma's. All that said, I enjoyed the book myself as I have a hard and fast rule, don't give anything you would not like to receive. It is also the sort of book you can go back to over and over again, and, I am assured, it has a high swap value!!!

We bought this as a Christmas present for our little boy, and have unpacked it and switched it on tonight to check it. We have bought many things from Amazon over the years, and good though everything has been, this is the first time we have felt inclined to leave feedback.
Fantastic! Just an absolute delight. Larger and more detailed than we expected, beautiful to look at, especially when switched on and the sea life becomes visible (haven't worked out how it does that, but am resisting the temptation of taking it apart to find out), robust, well made and with plenty for a small child to find interest in. Not a toy as it states, but certainly well enough made to stand up to the attentions of a younger child.
My grandsons are into yucky things. They now have a pile of the Yuck Encyclopedia, Yuck's Fart Club, Yuck's Big Bogeys, and Gross Records - and they are in heaven. Excellent stuff for just baout eny child in my opinion.

I have just received this book from Amazon this morning and couldn't believe just how beautiful it is.So often with books I have read reviews and been slightly disappointed by the real thing-not so today. It is superbly made with stunning pop-ups and small chunks of accessible text by way of small information books -all with their own pop-ups.My children aged 7 and 4 have absolutely loved it and I am on here to order some more copies as birthday presents.A book that will be treasured!

1 BOUGHT THIS BOOK FOR OUR TYPICAL NOT-VERY-INTERESTED IN READING BOYS, AGED 11 AND 9 AND THEY ENDED UP FIGHTING OVER IT AND ARGUING WITH EACH OTHER ON THE SCHOOL TRIP OVER THEIR DIFFERENT RECALL OF THE FASCINATING FACTS THE AUTHOR HAD FOUND FOR THEM. I HAVE FOUND IT A REALLY FANTASTIC BOOK TO GIVE AS BIRTHDAY PRESENTS TOO - ALWAYS WELL RECEIVED BY KIDS AND PARENTS ALIKE - WHICH IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL!! HAVE ALSO BOUGHT THE FOLLOW UP BOOK "WHY EATING BOGEYS IS GOOD FOR YOU" - IN THE HOPE OF SOME PEACE AND QUIET OVER CHRISTMAS!!!

This is a really well produced semi-hardcover book. Lots of facts and figures and original pictures make this a very good read for the old and young gamer. It also has a fair amount of information on the origin of gaming and the hardware development, presented in a fun and not too geeky way. All you favourite games will be here from Pong to Tomb Raider, across all platforms including PC and arcade, covered in excellent detail as you would expect from Guinness.
I'm not that interested in the records to be honest and bought this more as a game guide and nostalgia trip and was glad I did. It is pretty well up to date (early 2008) and great to pick up and delve into the odd chapter here or there. I'm not sure whether this will be an annual thing ... Read More:

My son really enjoyed this book. It captured his imagination and we have had lots of interesting chats about different countries and cultures around the world. Excellent for participation and goes really well with associated books on flags and geography.
