Be prepared for one of the most exciting page-turning reads you'll ever encounter. This book will grip you from the first page and not let you go until the end. It's the longest of the four Sally Lockhart books, but you won't notice the length as the plot just keeps going and thickening all the time.
As if that wasn't enough, in between the excitement there's also a wealth of incidental detail about social conditions in Victorian England, and especially about the rights (or lack thereof) of women.
Please note: the four Lockhart books should be read in order. This book gives away a number of significant plot developments in the first two (Ruby in the Smoke and Shadow in the North), so you should read those first. They're ... Read More:

If there was a zero star I would have to put that. The worst thing is reading a book where an author obviously has strange, misguided and warped opinions and hang-ups regarding society, sexuality and religious faiths and puts them into the mouths of his or her little invented characters (which all reveal a little part of the writer). Even the characters themselves are weird and un-likable and get up to revolting and unsavoury things. If you take the entire conception of this trilogy as a possible reality and to it's obvious conclusion you would go mad with no hope. I read these books out of interest and was very disappointed. What strange ideas throughout the whole vein of these stories. I would definately recommend Narnia instead where the ... Read More:

Stone Cold: A good story...
in fact, two stories are interwoven until the two become one. The one story is told by Link, a boy who becomes homeless, the other is told by Shelter, a serial killer...
The book is a real page turner and really draws you in. I couldn't put it down and had to find out what was happing to these children who mysteriously disappear, and what would happen to Link. At a certain point it becomes obvious that Link and Shelter's paths will cross but what will happen is the question that will bug you until the end of the book.
An excellent read in class as its themes will surely appeal to children aged from 12-16, and as it is not a difficult book to read can easily be used in ESL classes too.

This book is quite light-hearted, and as another review says, probably contains everything you need to pass- get a C grade. It doesn't, however, contain the information i would personally say you need for the A*-B Therefore is better for foundation. I have now bought the York Notes revision book, which is much better for higher grades!!!

an original novel based on the tv show doctor who, telling an all new story in prose form. featuring the tenth doctor as played by david tennant on tv, with his companion donna noble, who was played by catherine tate.
as usual with this range of books, the novel runs for roughly 248 pages of relatively large print, and can be read by readers of all ages, and the two lead characters are perfectly captured, with dialogue that you can well imagine the tv version saying.
does this one stand out from the range?
set in a distant galaxy it's determinedly alien in setting and succeeds in creating such a world, but it's more than accessible and never too alien. the doctor and donna are caught up in a struggle between an anti ... Read More:

Although it has its moments, it has alot of superflous dialogue and can be quite difficult for children to understand at times. It is also quite racist in how it describes particular people, which although obviously acceptable (from a publishers point - not mine)when it was first printed, it is not now, and I was quite disappointed that an author of this calibre felt the need to use such words. Could be a lovely, adventurous story in half the words!

On almost every page of these practice papers there are severe grammatical errors (e.g. "Übrigens machen wir *keine Urlaub", Reading Paper 1, p. 12), spelling mistakes (*kamm, ibid.), wrong connotations ("Nach fünf Minuten werden die Teebeutel *ausgenommen", Reading Paper 1, p. 7) and spelling mistakes (confusing the 3rd person plural pronoun sie and the polite 2nd person pronoun Sie; inconsistent use of new and old spellings: heute nachmittag on page 6 and heute Abend on page 9). The language in most texts is anything but idiomatic German. As a German native speaker, I am appalled at the poor quality of this publication and can only advise people against buying this title.

This was actually a real good book but I hope the younger readers don't actually copy the girl in this book (which is probably unlikely). This book I would say isn't for teenagers but me being a teenager myself I would then say that this book was quite interesting. Even though it was a very very short book for children it really gets to you and you can't help think how you would feel if you lost one your own pets. Jacqueline Wilson actually did a good job on this book.

As a general GCSE history help guide this book is no better than OK. However, it is certainly not a 'Complete Revision'. Whilst I'd agree it would help lower level students as it sets out information in an easy to understand, simplistic format, I don't feel it covers the various topics with sufficient detail to accommodate the higher level student.
For example the suggested answers given in order to attain level 4, in my opinion, are not of adequate depth. If I was marking these answers they would not be acceptable to reach the highest level.
By all means use this book as a guide but students will need to fill in the many gaps from other resource material.
