I am only give it a couple of stars for the insight into life in Pompeii and the lovely pictures, but I do not think it is that great for learning Latin.
I am teaching Latin to my daughter and we started of with this book. She did not do very well, although she was keen to learn. We now use the more traditional "So you really want to Learn Latin", published by Galore Park, which is brilliant - lots of exercises, with the grammar taught in a logical order. You go straight into 4 tenses of "amo" in the first chapter and my daughter is coming on leaps and bounds now. As I was reading this book I got the impression it was written for children, but it would have been an insult to even a young child.
There was no depth to the characters for you to feel sympathy for them. It was also not at all related to the real world of refugee's and prejudices. Sorry, It could have been a really good story,and did get my full attention in the opening chapter, but lost it's way in the telling. >>More Details |

I achieved an A grade using this guide, so I will firstly state that is guide is a fantastic resource for revsion.
I like the language within the guide, as it was not too simple or too complex which usually puts me off revising. The guide is easy to digest and the interpretations within the guide gain higher grades for the user within the exam, as it is interpretations that the examiner looks for. I like the size of the guide, as the small size meant that I could easily pop it in my tote bag while travelling meaning that if I had a few minutes spare, I could revise from the guide. I cannot express enough excitement about this book.I thought at first this would be a soso look back book as other weekly comic books have been.This is so much better than all the other nostalgia only books.
Look and learn was always more varied than most comics.Where else would you find actor,Edmund Kean alongside castles and historical figures like Dick Turpin and literary figures like Robin Hood.An entire story of the Trigan Empire comic strip is spread across this lovely large book. Like the first Anne book, Anne of Green Gables, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. And though many think these books sentimental mush, I seemed to garner a lot from reading them.
They teach me to see God in new and exciting ways - to see God more in Nature and the world around me that He has created - to look for the best in all people I meet, especially those who are hard to like, ie Mrs. Rachael Lynd and Mr. Harrison. So Sweet! A lovely read... I finished it within 2 days! A really good book that deserves to be on the bookshelf!
Remy has suffered many blows in life, romantically, emotionally and in her home life too. She has taken all her rules from her mother - whos on husband number 5. She has lived her life through rules and regulations. Then she meets Dexter, a musician, so he's definately off the list - or so it seems, Remy just can't seem to dump him. Although Dexter knows her better than she thinks, he is quite a bubbly chap and loves a good laugh as much as Remy does. Then Remy tells her friend that Dexter is just a 'summer guy' and one for the holidays. Although she has had more boyfriends than many of us has had socks, she doesn't really understand ...
