My class really enjoy the starters provided from this series of books - and at only £3 a go, they are an absolute bargain.

Each one of them is packed with ideas for starters which, although labelled Y7, Y8 and Y9 are suitable for Upper KS2 into KS3 and lower KS4. This one also includes mental/oral science tasks that can be used with brighter KS2 children. With a little adaptation, even my weaker KS2 children have been able to access some of the tasks - but which of us would consider taking something straight from a book without considering differentiating it to suit the abilities of our children? At the end of most tasks are hints for differentiation which help us to stretch the brighter children through the task or to support ... Read More:

This is the first book I ever read, so I always look back on this book with a certian ammount of nostalgia.
Nostalgia aside, I found that this is a very packed book for less than 200 pages.
I find it hard to disemminate the plot without at least one spoiler, so I'll let you read the book.
Snibril is the character to whom most of the action happens to, and his development is supurb.
and as for Pismere, when you find out why he was kicked out of the dumi empire, you will laugh out loud.
I feel that this is one of Pratchetts greatest achievments. It is worth a read to Pratchett fans in order to see him at his best, and to anyone else, just so that you can see a well writen book that is action packed, but still short ... Read More:

This book is FANTASTIC. On behalf of my daughter, I would like to say this is a very moving story and is a real page turner. The symapathy goes out to this girl because it is a true story and it sets the scene. The ordeals this girl (Adaline Yen Mah) goes through is truely awful and you feel for her. My daughter has cried and commented on this book to me and it has intrested me. My daughter is in year 8 and does not like reading at all but this book was set for her and her class to read for school and she has read it and is so sad when she hears about this poor young girl and what she goes through. It talks about her as a young girl and moves to adult hood and Adaline Yen Mah is truely a chinese cinderella. Very moving and HIGHLY recommened.

This is an amazing book. By the end, you real feel like you know Anne. She's an incredible girl, and tells of her amazing journey through teenage life in hiding. This book is filled with powerful emotions, there are sad bits, frightening bits and happy bits. I just couldn't put it down. As you read about Anne's life, you began to feel you know her, and when you find out what happens to her at the end, it real feels like loosing a member of your family. I was in tears. She's such a brave girl, and didn't deserve such an awful life. Read it, it really is an amazing story.

I came to this book after reading Twilight and it is difficult to avoid making comparions. For a vampire novel to succeed, it has to make the reader believe that there are areas on the fringes of society where the supernatural can exist and where humanity can take strange and different forms. These areas need to be described in dark and atmospheric language allowing readers to imagine the locations and characters clearly.
In my opinion Richelle Mead's novel lacks the atmosphere and implicit sense of menace that is needed for an effective vampire tale. The Vampire Academy is described briefly and it seems a curious combination of ancient and modern with dark buildings and internet connections suggesting that supernatural beings depend on human technology. ... Despite the fact that it can be infuriatingly slow at times I am something of a fan of the Naruto anime series and came to this manga after I heard it was much better with less filler. I would have to agree with this as I have found this manga far more focused and easier to get into than the anime ever was.

This first volume of the manga sees Naruto being trained and tested so that he can become a Ninja. The artwork is good while the plot itself is well written and quite funny. There are a few minor differences from the anime but these are easy to get use to and I am probably enjoying these early books more than I did the early anime episodes. Overall, although I have read better manga in the past, Naruto is nonetheless entertaining and definitely ... Read More:
