On the surface One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, the third Beginner Book that Dr. Suss (Ted Geisel) wrote, might appear to be a book of merely counting, colours, opposites and other concepts. The book revolves around the motto of "funny things are everywhere", and the fish in different guises are but the welcome mat to this wild, weird world. The creatures and crazy situations in the book (Yink, Yop, Ying, Gack, Zans, etc) are designed to encourage readers to embrace the world in all its quirkiness and diversity, and there are small sentiments peppered throughout the book such as "These things are fun, and fun is good" and "If you wish to make a wish". This book may be plotless, but the theme of funny things and embracing the world help ... Read More:

The intricacy, layout and artistry of this book is amazing. My children (5 and 2) absolutely love it although they do need to be reminded to be careful of the popups but so far it's survived many readings and curious fingers. Absolutely recommended, especially as a gift.

My child cannot get enough of books; we stumbled across Lynley Dodd quite early in his life and by now have collected nearly everything she has written. While her books range from very good to excellent, Slinky Malinki is just genius: frankly the best children's book I've ever read (I must confess that I am a bit of a book snob, so this is a very high compliment).
At 18 months my child was captivated by the illustrations and events, and the ending fully met his need for drama and excitement. As a parent, I will never tire of reading this book (no mean feat!). It is BEAUTIFULLY written, even by adult standards. I am particularly impressed by the author's use of her extensive vocabulary and the fact that she sees no need to settle for ... Read More:

Having a great time with my son going through this book. Excellent, easy to follow format with a really fun approach this book has succeeded in dragging my son (and me ;-]) away from the xbox. Totally recommended.

Usborne is a name you rarely go wrong with and this Farmyard Tales Collection doesn't disappoint.
Here, all 20 Farmyard Tales are under one cover which beats buying them all individually, and it's a great price too.
The illustrations are bright and colourful and the storylines are simple.
My 2 year old is thrilled!! If you know a young one with a interest in farms or farm animals then this is the book to get.
Highly recommended (PS: I love the smooth padded front cover)

After my daughter received Egyptology and instantly fell in love with it I have bought several more since and have bought Mythology for her this Christmas.
It has some lovely illustrations of various ancient Greek Gods such as Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. It includes the story of the wooden horse of Troy as well as an interesting map of Ancient Greece and a stunning representation in shiny gold of a magnificent death mask.
It has a beautiful blue front cover, with a stunning picture, embossed in gold, with little blue glass globules and a lovely gold feather built into the last page and is of superb quality as all these 'ology' books are. It has lots of information, so I feel it would be more suitable for an older child as it ... Read More:
