This is a wonderful adaptation. The acting is really great - the voices are perfect in my mind, particularly Lyra, Will, Mrs. Coulter, the gyptians... Lord Asriel's seems perhaps strange to start with, but before long he seems great for the job. I agree with the above that the adaptations could have merited from being a bit longer - but having read the books and then listened to these it's not actually that noticable. The adapters have done well in condensing it to this space, spending most time on the most important bits - the end of the first book, for example. The adapters clearly have a great love of the book and Lavinia Murray has done a great job into adapting into two CDs worth, and the acting is really great. Highly recommended!

This book is about a boy and his grandma. Unfortunately his parents died
so he went to live with his Nan in England. In the 6 weeks holiday he was going to Norway but his Nan had pneumonia so he could not. He went to Bournemouth instead. In the hotel there were roughly 99 witches (including the grand high witch). He went to train his mice and he got caught in the room with them ..... I like the book because the characters were amazing. It was just the words I wanted to read, I could not wait to read on to the other chapters. It is my all time favourite book. My 9 year old son was a very reluctant reader, it was painful trying to encouage him. Until his teacher introduced him to these books. Within a couple of days I was being begged to buy him the set. He has since gone on to read loads of goosebumps and other similar books - he rarely has his nose out of one. The secret is a mixture of toilet humour, vivid cartoon style text and a sending up of school staff. The only problem is the us spellings but the advantages outweigh this.

I remember reading 'Danny' during a time when I was off school some 20 odd years ago and am now reading it to my own children. Danny's dad seemed so cool and their life, which was so different to my own, seemed an absolute idyll. Despite having this escapist dream back then I am hoping my kids get out of it what I did and coming back to it after all of these years I think I can really rate it as a timeless classic.

So this is where the nursery rhyme came from! Thus starts this well known and beloved tale as young Mary Lennox, raised in India by indifferent parents, is a most spoiled and disagreeable child. After she is orphaned she is sent to live with her recluse uncle Archibald Craven in a large mysterious mansion set amidst the dark moors of England. This story is too well known and beloved by all to rehash the plot all over again. Suffice it to say that this was a lovely tale of two bitter and unhappy young children who were able to find the "secret gardens" within themselves and used that magic to heal their tortured souls, and become healthy, happy children.

The Greggs are hunters who will shoot anything in the woods for fun. The little eight year old girl (who is always unnamed) who lives next door can't stand hunting of the ducks - and one day, she gets so mad that she puts the "magic finger" on them. The next morning, the Greggs wake up bird sized, complete with wings ... and that's just the beginning of their problems. I would rate this book a fabulous 7/ 10 because I think Roald Dahl should have named the girl. Overall, this book is just over the rating of a standard book. This book is a classical Roald Dahl which is much loved by millions!

I liked charlie and the chocolate factory a lot.I liked it because they were poor and charlie got a golden ticket. And that meant that Charlie could get all the chocolate and sweets that he wanted and, he could bring it home. My favorite part was when Veruca fell down the rubbish hole. There was more good parts as well, it was not the only one.
