My baby boy loves this and the others in the series. He liked them from just a few weeks old and now he's 9 months he grabs them off the shelf and insists on 'reading' them and touching all the different textures.

Coram Boy is set in 18th century England and contrasts lives of the fortunate and unfortunate children of the times. Well written beginning given a horrific picture of child trafficking and murder. Unfortunately it all becomes a bit predictable - abandoned child is reunited with his parents, bad people get their just desserts etc. Not sure which age group this book was aimed at. Concepts such as pregnancy outside marriage, selling of young children into slavery and infanticide suggest it is aimed at 12 - 13 year olds. However the actual writing is very simple and the main boys are aged nine.

This is another firm favourite from the Elmer series of board books. The book looks at lots of Elmer’s animal friends from Zebra to Lions and Polar Bears to Snakes - Elmer loves them all. With a little imagination you can make the book come alive even more. For example doing the hissing sound for the snake or the roar for the lion. When you get to the page with the kangaroo don't forget to bounce the book up and down. The final pages show all the animals and our little one points to each animal as we say their name thus reinforcing recognition. The board book is very robust and able to withstand lots of rough treatment. The colours are very bright and our little one responds very well to this book - five star fun!

My 16 month old has had this book for three months now and loves it - she looks at it every day. She can now point at some of the pictures when we name them, and even tells us her words for a few. The tabs make turning the pages really easy and the Fimo models and toy vehicles are lovely (the big green dragon is my personal favourite!). The board pages are sturdy and the spine has survived a lot of chewing and attempts to bend the pages the wrong way! There's a good mix of animals, everyday objects, vehicles and food items, all grouped in double-page colour spreads, plus a "find the object" page at the back that will make this good for older toddlers too. A fantastic buy!

I first borrowed this from the library and then I had to buy it because my 1.5 year old loved it so much!
The illustrations are so friendly and colourful. It is a good book for children to develop memory skills as well as learning vocabulary. One of the best features is, however, the durability of the book. The pages and the flaps are cardboard, so little fingers can easily open and turn pages without destroying the book. >>More Details |

We have Sam Ita's Moby Dick and this is just as brilliant. The pop-up engineering is fantastic and infused with detail. Like Moby Dick there are flaps to open, parts that move and things to do making this book a real journey of discovery - take a 3-D look inside Jules Verne's visionary submarine; sit with the sailors at their lobster-laden table; pull a lever to move the diving gauge. The giant squid is a total joy!
It's been enjoyed by both my sons, the seven year old loves the artwork, pop-ups and condensed story while the thirteen year old has been inspired to read the original.
