"This old man, he played one, he played knick-knack on my drum". I never understood what a knick-knack was as a child and am non-the-wiser now. However I always loved this catchy rhyme. I bought the book to enhance the singing of the rhyme to my first toddler.
The book is pleasant enough, but I don't feel that the illustrations marry up to the rhyme particularly well. For instance, "This old man, he played two, he played knick-knack on my shoe" is illustrated by a dancing pirate who has a wooden leg! Also, each page has a cut-out hole and the number of holes, and the pictures that you see through them don't have much of a bearing on the rhyme or the number in question. I bought the book for a present after reading all the great reviews. Found the story rather strange. And the ending that the woman dies is odd. Maybe that's English humour I don't get. The graphics are lovely though. I bought the hardbook and there was no CD, maybe hearing the song helps to enjoy the story more.

My 3 year old loves this book and never tires of it. She loves hearing the meny different rhymes and looking at all the pictures. She asks for it to be read to her most nights. I like this book because it is packed full of different rhymes so i do not have to get bored reading the same thing every time.
We have had this book for 2 years now and i know we will still be reading it for meny years to come, much better value than meny other books. >>More Details |

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story of Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Tom Kitten and Jemima Puddle-Duck among others and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter.
