This is the first time I have submitted a review, but those loving John Rutter's own carols and arrangements should know that this is a superb, almost certainly the best, compilation. It includes the beautiful and ever popular Nativity Carol and Shepherd's Pipe Carol which he wrote in his teens and after that most of the carols he has composed. The accompanying notes include all the words, which is such a help, and give information about when and for whom or what occasion each carol came to be written. And most importantly they were recorded when John Rutter had put together a superb singing group, The Cambridge Singers. It doesn't get any better than this.

This CD is a delight capturing the sparkle and fun of Xmas. It is light classical music at its very best. I play Troika and I know the festive season has begun.

I would guess that the Amazon reviewer Warwick Thompson is under 25.
Anyway, he writes as if he is, judging by his use of the English language
("think Goldfinger", eeeeeeeeh!).
He also believes that L'Homme Armee is 16th century. Oh dear.
I find the reviews of the actual buyers much more to the point, wheher positive or negative.
Pity that the text of the Amazon reviewer is displayed at the top.
OK?

I dont think this is the best Katherine Jenkins I have heard but I have enjoyed listening to it.
My favourite tracks were "I Vow to Thee My Country" which moves me to tears and the musical version of a famous poem "Do Not Stand at My Grave.." which was read at my brothers funeral 18 years ago. At first, I couldnt listen to more than a couple of lines but eventually when I felt strong enough, I listened to it and the words and it was sheer beauty. This is a track I will enjoy on my own though.
I also liked "All Things Bright and Beautiful" but was disappointed at the alternative tune used in place of the traditional.
A nice album but it will be one I will flick through.

Allegri's Miserere is given the top billing on this disc, perhaps because of some celebrated special effects, explained in the liner notes, that it contains. The first track is devoted to a sombre and beautiful Crucifixus (from the Nicene Creed) by one Lotti, an older contemporary of Bach. Admirable and compelling, both of these, but what I bought this disc for was the two items by Palestrina, his Stabat Mater and the celestial Missa Papae Marcelli.
It is not just the quality of the early music specialists these days but the sheer profusion of them that continues to astonish me. I looked through the list of singers (18, not 16) and while I did not recognise most of the names offhand that may simply be because I did not investigate my large record ... Read More:

This CD contains a huge selection of wonderful Christmas music. Were it not for problems with the sound levels, I would definitely give it 5 stars. The issue is that parts of the recording are so quiet the volume has to be turned up almost to maximum to be heard (eg the opening of 'Once in Royal..'), and then turned back down again to stop your eardrums being burst when verse 2 starts. Throughout the CD you are constantly turning the volume up and down - sometimes within the same song. I listen to, and sing, a lot of choral music so appreciate the difference in sound levels when performing 'live', however the quiet bits still need to be audible! It is frustrating and does spoil what would otherwise be an excellent CD.
I have played the CD on a standalone CD player/amp, ... Read More:

One of the first things we experience on this wonderful DVD is Katherine Jenkins' sense of humour, natural warmth, and un-diva-ish personality, which shine through the whole performance. And talk about pride in being Welsh! :-) Good for her! This DVD is a treat from beginning to end. Wonderful picture quality; super sound; and then there are Katherine Jenkins, Juan Diego Flórez, Serendipity, and the National Symphony Orchestra, all giving of their best. Fantastic!
For three of the Extras, just close your eyes and listen--the picture quality is truly abysmal, but that voice, that voice....

It looks like a bizarre mix: Louis Armstrong (the wonderful " `Zat You, Santa Claus ?") and Russell Watson (Panis Angelicus) on one Christmas album. Classical and jazz together: you probably wouldn't want to listen to them together in one sitting. But as a collection of festive music you wouldn't want to be without at Christmas, this two-CD album really works. I'm not a huge jazz fan, but the selection contains well-known tunes from classic artists - Eartha Kitt (`Santa Baby'), Oscar Peterson (`A Child Is Born') and Nina Simone (`Little Girl Blue') among many others, all sounding sharp and fresh. The classical CD has carols, classical pieces and `modern classics' such as "Walking In The Air", with performances from the likes of All Angels, the Choirboys, King's College Choir ... Read More:
