Dr Indiana Jones has long been known as a serious explorer and scholar by all readers of the National Geographic. His canon of work stands unchallenged by anyone in the world today.
Finally his in-depth documentaries have been collected together, collated, and organised, so we can see his achievements in the field of Anthropology, Archaeology, Primitive Religion and Cultural Raiding, and Driving At Speed Across Dusty Landscapes.
This particular collection has been edited and compiled by a Mr Spielburg (ed. check spelling), who, whilst generally keeping to the facts, makes each documentary slightly too fantastical for serious Archaeologists and Academics to be comfortable with. A better, more level-headed editor may ... Read More:

Indiana Jones - Raiders Of The Lost Ark - Special Edition [1981]
Steven Spielberg at HIS BEST. Another movie from my Dad's Collection. The action never stops and there's a carefully calculated high-point every 15 minutes at least. The effects are well co-ordinated, and the film is easily Spielberg's most genuinely riveting. The film is produced by George Lucas. Harrison Ford, discovered by Lucas, for STAR WARS, plays the title character, who is BOGART, FLASH GORDON and HAN SOLO rolled into one.

Mother and daughter, both outsiders, blow into stuffy old-fashioned French village (cobbled streets, quaint houses, romantic lamplight, no cars, no uncouth farmers) and bring with them the power to release the claustrophobic and straight-laced community from its inhibitions - not the first time on screen that this formula has been employed. What is unusual is the medium they use. Delicious and irresistible chocolate confectionery tempts everyone, and turns then into better, more liberated people. In the end, good defeats bad, love triumphs over hate, and everyone is released from cramping conventions to do their own thing. Very much a message of our times, in other words, and perhaps none the worse for that - though whether self-indulgence is always the best ... Read More:

I have seen all the three installments in the theatres right from my early days of school to college days. It was a great adventure to watch. All three movies have independent stories, but the best of them was the "Last Crusade". However, the first one "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is also good. "The Temple of Doom" is not very interesting.
All three movies are the best viewing experience for adventure. However, the DVD pack is not very attractive. This DVD pack contains all three DVDs, with each disc containing special features pertaining to movie, which also includes latest excerpts from interviews with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. Except for these interviews, nothing new is in this DVD pack. Those of you who already have previously released DVD pack in 2003 ... Read More:

Monk - still crazy after all these seasons. And, let's face it, there have been two or three too many. Bitty Schram's sudden departure (apparently because she was paid less than everyone else) midway through season three ripped the heart out of the show, and the basic dynamics between the central characters have never worked since. Traylor "Trash" Howard (probably not her real nickname) just doesn't compare.
Season six is fine, just as adequate as the previous two. There are some decent celebrity cameos from Sarah Silverman (reprising her role as Adrian's obsessed number one fan), Snoop Dogg (yes, Snoop Dogg) and Alfred Molina. There's also a little bit of long-awaited progress in the overarching plot. But there's far too much primetime schmaltz and too many ... Read More:

A bold and colourful film about the audacious and uncompromising Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, from her tram accident at 18, which left her with excruciating chronic pain, through her many affairs with both men and women, including Leon Troksy, and her tumultuous but enduring marriage to Mexican muralist, Diego Riviera.
Her life was full of circumstance and the pain and tragedies that she endured are imbued in her vibrant paintings.
Here, director Julie Taymore shows she is an extremely talented and accomplished director, displaying her artistic vision and skill, making fantastic use of colour, art and music.
Visually resplendent, this is an alluring film.

Kenneth Branagh's film of As You Like It received a pretty cool critical reception as I remember. Amazon reviewers don't appear to be overwhelmed either. I came to it with low expectations but enjoyed it far more than I ever hoped I would.
Yes - the 19th century Japanese setting is a bit of a problem. It is hardy what one expects to encounter in this play. The (Sumo) wrestling scene is frankly comical - I don't think Shakespeare intended us laugh hysterically at this point! More worryingly, Branagh tries to carry the Japanese setting over into the Forest of Arden. The main problem is that this is one of Shakespeare's most English plays. There are more songs in this play than in any other he wrote, though few of them make it into the film. We only get one ... Read More:

I saw this film many, many years ago and remember really liking it. I spontaneously bought the dvd recently but found watching it again a lot less appealling.
Even though I enjoyed the story and some scenes were acted really well, the execution let it down at times, i.e. I really hated the soldiers' sparkling new and bright uniforms, they looked really unrealistic and out of place. I also found that Michelle Pfeiffer was a disappointing cast for Isabeau who was supposed to be the most beautiful woman of her time who enchanted a lot of men. However, Pfeiffer with short hair looked just boyish to me and not very beautiful at all (very unlike any later roles).
I also disliked the soundtrack, often music in films passes me by but I actually thought a few times that the eighties ... Read More:

As at least one of the reviews in favour of this film came from the UK I thought I was in with a chance of being amused. I had thought that a film with James Garner, Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson in the lead roles would be very good but this is really a "ho hum" film. Some of the costumes and scenic shots are great but there is some very poor cutting, particularly in the bank robbery sequence, where it is obvious part of the plot has been cut. The comedy is not very funny and the script is pretty low level. I am very glad I watched this on my own and didn't persuade my husband to watch it with me. It would have been a shame to waste both our time. Don't bother spending your money on this one. I will be donating my copy to freecycle.
