'The Princess Bride' is finally getting its own Region 2 Special Edition DVD? Inconceivable! (Well, it's about time MGM got their act together. Let's face it, Region 1 have had more Special Editions released than there are R.O.U.Ss in the Fire Swamp.) This is a 2 disc set so let's hope we get all the extras the other region has had plus more to make up for our long wait!

'When Harry Met Sally' is fundamentally a chick flick with a 'will they, won't they' storyline and yet it's smart and snappy dialogue elevates it to the classic it has now become. Focusing on the relationship dynamics between men and women and from the perspective of the cynical and jaded Harry (Billy crystal) and the optimistic, slightly naive Sally (Meg Ryan), this film offers so many humorous insights that it literally is one hilarious moment, followed by a touching moment, followed by a strangely insightful moment and then back to a humourous one again. The assorted couples who introduce the various 'chapters' are also completely endearing and add an extra touch to the overall film. This is a short but perfectly pitched movie and coupled ... A friend's exhortations to watch this "hilarious" rock-romp led me to the DVD player one wet and windy wednesday. My expectations were admittedly sky high as the same person had been the source of many other mirth packed evenings. However, the promised chuckles ( how I prayed for them to appear) did not emerge. I found it dated and over-rated, with most of what paltry humour there was relying on jokes about sex, airport metal detectors and misunderstandings between the thinly sketched "main" characters. In order for me to laugh I need to feel empathy for the main characters in a film. The central actors in this film, however, elicited none. They appeared to be very slow on the uptake and elicited sympathy and even contempt-the enemies of humour. There was also ... Read More:

Just to clear up a point another guy's made Bug's Life is not in 4:3 format. They didn't flip the disc and there they'd find the full 16:9 format of the original movie. Not sure how they've found a Toy Story film at 4:3 as well, as both are in full 16:9. So every movie is in 16:9 format and all the discs are stored safely in thinner DVD plastic clip cases.
So don't let the review below put you off - this really is one of the best pressies you can buy yourself or someone else this Christmas! The Pixar story & shorts are all excellent too and well worth watching especially for the history of the Pixar animation team in the early days.

This is without a doubt, the greatest, most heartbreaking, opulent and involving adaptation of Hamlet that will ever, ever, ever be in existence. We have seen 3 versions in our Shakespeare-obsessional career, and this is absolutely and by far the best. You just cannot compare this to anything else. It's our favourite film in the whole wide world. Kenneth Branagh delivers his lines with subtlety, genuine emotion and real understanding, which is key. He is our favourite actor in the world due to this film alone! Don't let the length put you off, you won't want it to end even after 4 hours. It is a joy to watch!

I have been a long time Woody Allen fan but had never seen this film before. I have recently been re-watching most of his films and I think this stands amongst the very best..
The structure of the film is very clever and adds interest and variety to what is a very funny story. The casting is superb and Allen is brilliant as Harry. If you have a problem with profanity(extreme), you will probably have issues with this film, but I absolutely loved it.

I've just watched 40 minutes of this film and had to turn it off. This is the first time I've ever done this while watching a DVD. I had no interest in what was going to occur or how this film would end. It was disturbing to see a wonderful actor like Robert De Niro playing such a unfunny or unbelievable character as this. Clearly this film was cashing in on the early success of The Sopranos but doesn't come anywhere near the quality of the script of it. A disappointing film that was unbearable to watch.
