I rented this out and thought it was a brilliant and warm romantic story. Kenya is a very successful woman at the bank, she has got close friends and family but there is one thing missing-a man. So when she argees on a blind date and meets Brian, she quickly dismisses him as being white and wouldn't dare dating him. But as the movie goes on, she starts to fall for him even though that her brother has set her up with the perfect man she had been longing for before she met Brian. She must choose between the handsome man she has secret feelings for or the man she wanted all her life. I really enjoyed this, it was like a breath of air and didn't want to let go. Sanaa Lathen was brilliant as Kenya, you really feel and root for her to make that big ... Read More:

The Cosby show is a very good American family comedy. It was made in the early 1980's and feautured the great comedian and actor Bill Cosby. The show follows the everyday trials and tribulations of DR Cliff Huxtable (played by Cosby) and his family. Which include his wife Claire whose a lawyer and his five kids, Sondra, Denise, Theo, Vanessa and little Rudy. The kids cover all age groups and the show tackles many different issues the kids go through like dating, death of a pet, playing sports for school and many others. Even though it tackles some tricky subjects the show is always funny and shows how funny kids can be. Bill Cosby is also fantastic as Cliff and the way he works and talks to the kids is hillarious. The show was a huge success in ... Read More:

DVD : Gattaca [1998]

Gattaca [1998]

starring: Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Gore Vidal, Jude Law, Elias Koteas
directed by: Andrew Niccol
December 27, 2004

To understand Gattaca, it helps to know a little history.

About a century ago, progressives took up what the New York Times in 1912 called the "wonderful new science" of eugenics. Because of improvements in medicine and public health, eugenists said, the "unfit" were having more children than the "fit." Their solution included both positive eugenics--encouraging the "fit" to have more children, and negative eugenics--preventing the "unfit" from having children.

Forced sterilization laws in some 37 states were their greatest achievement, with California being the most zealous in applying its law. But legislation in more conservative states, particularly in the South, was blocked by claims that forced sterilization was unconstitutional. ... Read More:

Madea's Family Reunion [2006] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Tyler Perry, Blair Underwood, Lynn Whitfield, Boris Kodjoe, Lisa Arrindell Anderson
directed by: Tyler Perry
June 27, 2006

This movie was superb. I wish it was available in PAL (not just US/Canada's NTSC format). I was both inspired not only with it's hysterical, insightful humour, but with it's global appeal. It brings out themes that EVERYBODY can relate to, not only the diverse and often lovable flaws in families, but personal problems and insightfully familiar life themes. The movie has great wit and side splitting humour. It's such fun to watch and this man is a star!

He really should be more widely recognised world-wide, a fantastic film that will leave you feeling inspired and wanting to watch more of this wonderful character.

Time to come and do a show in South Africa too!

What a talent!!!

As a film, this is good entertainment both in the Yemen action and the courtroom drama, BUT BEWARE its message. The film was described by the American-Arab Anti-discrimination Committee as "probably the most vicious anti-Arab racist film ever made by a major Hollywood studio" : having now seen the film more than once, and thought about it, I can see why. We are initially made to feel some sympathy for the civilian "victims", especially through the images of the little crippled girl and the dedicated Yemeni doctor who deals with the suffering of those shot by the marines. Then, progressively, we have the "truth" of the situation unfolded to us - the end result is that we realise that the doctor has lied, as has every Arab who says anything in the film, and the little girl is an armed terrorist ... Set It Off [1996] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Queen Latifah, John C. McGinley, Jada Pinkett Smith, Blair Underwood, Dr. Dre
directed by: F. Gary Gray
September 14, 1999

Queen Latifah, Jada Pinket, Vivica A. Fox, and Kimberly Elise lead this emotional rollercoaster coated in action, greed and romance.
The film centres around four young girls each living challenging and complicated lives but all with goals and aspirations. The unbelievable storyline gets the viewer thinking as their lives each take dramatic twists due to the unfair society they live in, as a result forcing them into their new lives of crime.
What makes this film trully unique is the fact that these are black women and their perfomances are hard hitting. The storyline is far from predictable and is written to a high stadard. This tearjerker draws out inspirational perfomances by Queen Latifah in particular as well as Jada Pinket.
This trully underrated and unpredictable film is both ... Read More:

I ordered this film for Black History month, and I really enjoyed this film. I found the concept of this film extremely good! It changed my perception of black history, history in general, the importance of family as an institution, and the underlying capacity to heal problems in the present day, regardless of colour race or creed.

Just Cause is one of those films that at first makes you wonder quite why it was so heavily slated when it came out - nothing special but competent enough and with an excellent supporting performance from Ed Harris. Then you hit the last third and everything starts to get increasingly silly until you've got a killer with a flashlight strapped to his forehead threatening to fillet Sean Connery's wife (a typically mannered and unconvincing Kate Capshaw) and kid (a very young Scarlet Johannsen) in an alligator skinner's shack. The kind of movie that's probably best seen on a plane, and even then only once.

Shows how men who have been cheated, oppressed & abused by authourity can make up their own minds clearly; focus on & achieve laudable goals despite being misunderstood or undervalued. Great story about how man should respect man irrespective of their background. Great cast, great acting.
