This film has been resonating with me days after watching it... not because it is the best film ever, but because it touched me deeply by the subtle way that it normalises the coming out experience and the subsequent gay relationships that can happen afterwards.
It was just so, so refreshing to witness on screen the unfolding lives, with no apologies and no judgements... and no funny camp fall guy to get in the way of the true story. More Gay cinema like this... please! My only criticism really would be that it ended with a little too much over sentimentality... but hey that's Hollywood for you. An end of nineties and 20th century film which attempts to discuss issues of relationships between twenty-something men and women, sex, rape, and our opinions on each. It does not try to be too clever though, some of the characters are unsavoury but the cast are all young, fresh faced Hollywood stars, though not the huge names. It revolves around two groups of friends, men and women who discuss things like the first date, sex, and what they want in a partner. They meet on a night out and most end up sleeping with each other. However, the next day one of the women accuses one of the men of rape. If 'Tan Lines' wasn't what you you hoped it would be, then 'Shelter' is definitely the film for you. The gay surfer movie that people have wanted to see since 'Point Break', it's a classic love story, in a sunny California setting.
Zach (Trevor Wright) is the 22 year old protagonist; he missed out on an art college scholarship, and is stuck working in a diner in a dead-end town. He spends his free time doing street art, surfing, and looking after his (stunning) 5 year old nephew, Cody. I first rented this out from my video shop and thought is was brilliant, it's not like your average run of the mill western it has a slight twist by combining all your favourite western heroes, Wild Bill Hickock, Jesse James, Doc Holliday, and my Favourite Billy the kid.

This movie is excellent. Good acting by all the actors and quite funny. It's a nice light tale of Billy who loves to produce his own art in the form of polaroids. He falls in love with the guy that he asks to be his model for his first REAL photo shoot. The model is supposedly straight but is breaking up with his "girlfriend" and seems to be slowly opening up to Billy and his lifestyle. Billy thinks he can have him but isn't sure if he's gay or not. Finally they get together but it's the model's first time and it falls through. He loses the model to a bigger shoot by another photo artist. The model goes to Catalina Island and Billy and others are invited (sort of) to the party afterwards. Billy chases after his model love just to find that his model has ... Read More:
