I'd been wanting to see this film for ages but never got around to it, i bought it about a week and a half ago, looking at the reverse i was schoked at the fact that it was 3 hours long! I have a really short attention span, and it was also in black and white, which i thought would put me off. Usually i watch films and work through them or talk to friends nose around on teh computer etc but after watching about half an hour of this film i couldn't tear myself away, i completely neglected my laptop for the next two and a half hours! it didn't get boring at all and i didn't even notice it wasn't in black and white. All though we all know of the tragic events of the holocaust watching it unfold in front of you through spielberg's magic doesn't fail ... This film is an insult to the British. A terrible performance by Dustin Hoffman, one of Hollywood's "got lucky" boys. If he wants to ham it up, the local Pantomime would be more appropriate. I can't believe Speilberg did this. A complete waste of money and Bob Hoskins. A lifelong fan of Julia Roberts, I can't see any point in casting her. Surely Roberts and Hoskins must cringe at showings of this crass presentation. As for Dustin Hoffman, bring back Mrs. Robinson, he needs some more luck.

In telling Schindler's story the director chose black and white and the beginning intimates that it might be in the great tradition of 'The Third Man' etc. Unfortunately the film meanders astray into detailed descriptions of the holocaust and the dynamic of the film is lost. Instead of a tense 1 hour 50 minutes of cunning, guile and threat there are literal hours when almost everything is 'spelt out' in many long takes and diversions. The great film techniques of suggestion and inference are little used as almost every action is shown literally and dramatic movement is lost to history lesson. It seems to me important that the dramatic 'backdrop' of any artistic production has to be understood and accepted for the story using that scenario to be successful and not 'told' ... Read More:

This story is both funny and Heartwarming, with teary moments inbetween. It starts with the gorky school girl, Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), going through normal life with her wish to be invisible. But this wish is challenged when her estranged grandmother (Julie Andrews) arrives from Genovia with the hope that Mia will follow in her footsteps by becoming Princess of Genovia. Mia reluctantly accepts after many trials and tribulations.
Halfway through this memorable film, you as a viewer begin to wonder:
After an awful beach party, loosing friends and her grandmother falling in love with a bodyguard, can she cope or will she do the same as her father?
This is a must-watch film, which is different from all others. How did they do it?!

..but also not a reference title. I had high expectations in "Cliffhanger". Being one of my fave movies, especially a great work from acclaimed director Renny Harlin, this blu ray release does not hold up with my hopes, but does not dissapoint either. The good news: the newly remastered picture and the overall transfer look definetly better than the DVD version. The bad news: It does not really give a thrill while watching the picture quality. Tough some scenes look pretty clear and sharp, and even occasionally touch the quality blu ray stands for, the all-in-all picture throughout the movie appears to be a bit un-sharp, somewhat with a loss of crispy clear pictures. There is no 3D-Feeling that some reference titles may give you.
No, no, no! I think Mr 'A Customer' also reviewing here picked up the wrong end of the stick, his video tape copy wasn't rewound due to the fact the couple watching it had to hit the sheets mid-movie after watching Michael Douglas and Demi Moore in their intimate clinch; the whipcrack of the g-string removal does stir the blood somewhat!
So, come on, Michael Crichton is no dispstick, and he's written more books-to-movie stories than most author's can wave a stick at, and someone has the gall to say it became boring? Nah, sorry, mate; are you sure you're reviewing the right movie?
Innovative as another reviewer notes in that the 'sexism in the office' tables have been turned in that Demi has accused Michael Douglas of sexual harrasment, (an absolute dream for most blokes, right!), ... Read More:

Its been quite a number of years ago now but I do remember seeing the TV Adaptation of The Sculptress on BBC1.
I think the acting by Pauline Quirke, who played Olive Martin, was quite chilling and showed that she could move away from the role of Sharon she played in Birds of a Feather and other comedic roles she was used to. You were also convinced of Olive's innocence within the film.
But I do look forward to reading the novel version of The Sculptress to make comparisons between the TV Adaptation and the novel quite soon.

This film struggles to be as close to the book of Marion Zimmer-bradley, but it is not. It gives an idea though, and urges the viewr to be a reader of the wonderful inspiring book of the late Marion. The music is excellent, though and Angelica Huston a brilliant actress as always. And Margulies is the perfect Morgaine. I would love to see in the future, though another film or mini series, "faithful" to the book.

I owned this film on laserdisc - who remembers that format? - when it was first released. I thought it to be one of Ridley Scott's least interesting films - more or less an inferior retread of Dead Poets Society, in the vein of the equally unoriginal Dangerous Minds and Scent Of A Woman. There is a bit of eye-candy in the experience, though; both the landscape and the comely boys are rather easy on the eyes. And Ridley Scott knows how to compose his shots. So far, so average.
This DVD version of the film, however, is a cropped print of the original 2,35:1 original. My original laserdisc version offered less resolution, but the picture was immensely better. The DVD version is cropped down to about 1,85:1, i.e. standard 16:9, and it feels claustrophobic - and it's not supposed to. Avoid this ... Read More:
