This is an amazing film, top notch i have seen all of the trilogy and this film is possibly the best, ignore any one who has rated this 1 star and has said they have only watched 30min of it, the film goes on for awhile but that makes it all the better in my opinion, the cast is amazing as always with even more new characters, the effects are quality and has a great story, i strongly recomend this to any one who loves the other two films and has not watched this film yet, and to any film lover, because i think any one can enjoy this, but would be an easier watch if the first two films were watched first, but this is one of the best trilogy's ever made, if not the best.

Due to so many varied reviews on Amazon about the individual DVD's in the series,I will limit my comments just to say that this box set represents superb family entertainment whatever your age and is possibly one of the best value box sets around.
As family viewing goes,it will keep the kids quiet for hours but the individual films are lengthy so spread your viewing over a couple of weekends to prevent over doing it.The movies themselves are great fun and with so many gruesome characters, make sure the more nervous ones in your family who are old enough to watch have someone to snuggle up to,just in case. In fact,in some of the scenes,I could have done with snuggling up to someone myself!
This is great entertainment and if you have not seen ... Read More:

*WARNING- SEMI SPOILERS AHEAD*

This is basically about one of the most dysfunctional families EVER! Set in the good ol Tang Dynasty days when it was hip to be Emperor and you had about a gazillion flower arrangers at your beck and call, the plot mainly revolves around the disintegration of the royal family due to their own back stabber-y hi-jinks. Apparently it's not so hip to be an adulterating Empress, even if you do look very pretty all resplendent in your opulent gowns. It's amazing she can move in that stuff!

The entire movie's pretty opulent actually. It's like watching that panoramic bowing scene from 'The Last Emperor' crossed with an Olympic opening ceremony. There's more plotting and scheming than actual fighting, but ... Read More:

I watched this for the first time recently and couldnt understand why it was so popular, i found this film utterly boring and very stupid for e.g the flying and stupid jumps, for me its very unrealistic as in the fight scenes two people throwing swords at other full pelt and no blood no one hurt no nothing, but the only reason it got 2 stars rather than 1 is because of the way its filmed, apart from that found it very very boring.

Despite a lavish and costly production with dozens of elephants and a purpose built set this film feels too long and doesn't grip. Jodie Foster plays the part impeccably but her character is hard to like and there is no chemistry between her and the King. The story is a bit formulaic and left me feeling flat. Although it strains to achieve a sense of the period and an exotic location there is something stagey and stiff about this film.

Tibetan Buddhism is a pure betrayal of Buddhism, of Buddha himself. It dares go beyond Buddha's teaching and reinvent a divinity of some kind where Buddha had taught there could not be any God anywhere. The great force that leads the universe in the eternal cycle from birth to rebirth via decay and death is transmuted into some kind of prophecy about some kind of truth to keep against human greed in order to save the world, and that truth is entrusted to one person who remains beyond aging, will not decay in other words, for as long as he will carry this trust and responsibility. When the time has come he will have to transmit his responsibility to the newly elected person who fulfills the three prophecies and the guardian will finally age and take a vacation leaving the burden ... Chow Yun-Fat stars as Francis, a hapless police sergeant seeking that elusive big case that will earn him a promotion. He gets this opportunity to investigate some drugs and a bunch of Thais (one of whom is 'Kill Bill''s Gordon Liu -- with hair!) who may (or may not) be involved somehow. For the case he is partnered with loose cannon and martial-arting cop Michael (Conan Lee, 'Ninja In The Dragon's Den'). However, the two don't get along that well (shades of a Hong Kong variation of 'Lethal Weapon' -- both were released in the late 1980s).

Things complicate when the sister of one of the suspects, Maria-Donna (Nina Li-Chi, 'Twin Dragons' -- nowadays better known for being married to Jet Li), becomes involved in the police work...

Although compared to 'Lethal Weapon' ... Read More:

This actually contains the 2 disc version of 'Bullet in the Head', making it a 4 disc set. All of the extras on that bonus disc are listed on the back of the box, so I believe the '3 Disc Collector's Edition' note on the front is just plain wrong.

As far as I know, these are the best region 2 editions of these movies currently available.

An OK Woo heroic bloodshed movie from the mid 80s. It's very dated though. However, how on earth can the DVD be called 'Ultimate'. The print of the movie is an old European copy - it's very soft in places and some scenes just look horrible on the eyes. If you're used to the superb 'Hong Kong Legends' titles this isn't a patch on them. Extra's wise it falls down too. There's a ood Bey Logan commentary on disc one, disc two includes a John Woo documentary - not one specific to 'A Better Tomorrow' - it's not that good either spending a lot of time on Woo's Hollywood career. And there's a couple interviews. Not so much Ulimate as the 'That'll do for now' edition. However, the movies enjoyable enough and we're unlikely to see a better copy in the near future. There's just a lot of better examples of this kind ... Read More:
