A rousing story about a black platoon facing prejudice and annilation during the American civil war. Matthew Broderick's finest performance as the leader of the first all black regiment fighting the confederates and racism from their own Union army. Supported by the fine Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington. The plight of these brave men will emotionally move you, possibly to tears, although mine was more of a controlled welling, though my lower lip did quiver when the credits rolled.

The 1980s was not really a decade for re-making classic horror films; rather, it was a time when high quality original horror was being produced in great quantity. In fact, it is the late-1970s & 1980s horror that is now seeing a mass re-makeover of sorts ['Creepshow', 'Halloween', 'The Fog', 'The Omen', 'The Hills Have Eyes', 'Dawn of the Dead' and 'The Amityville Horror' to name but a few]. But there were a handful of classic re-makes directed during the 1980s, and two spring to mind, both being in the cross genres of horror and science fiction: John Carpenter's 'The Thing' and ...
... Chuck Russell's 'The Blob'.
This cool little horror tale is a re-make of the 1958 version starring Steve McQueen. Here we have ... Read More:

Indeed, as my fellow reviewer's agree, an incredible snapshot of how we were in 1968, and hat's off, still, to Tony Palmer for capturing the images which are wonderful for any young person studying our musical heritage, and indeed, for us to look back upon.
Although Patrick Allen (RIP) was THE 'in' voice-over man of the time, both this and Cream's 'Farewell Concert' have unfortunately been marred by his observations. Fair play, he may well have just been reading someone else's words from a script, but even when 'All My Loving' was originally broadcast, Allen's commentary gives the impression, but only during Cream's fiesty live clip from 'We're Going Wrong' that WE AS A GENERATION were going / had gone wrong. This was most objectionable at the time, ... Read More:

„Love Kills" stars and is directed by Mario van Peebles, but to begin with: This movie isn't as good as his prior pictures „Posse" or „New Jack City".
At the beginning of the movie van Peebles escapes from jail with the help of his parter (Loretta Devine), and together they try to get to the money of a rich widdow by posing as fitness-trainer and nurse. Along the way there are many twists and turns (love, double-crossing, blackmail and murder), but the story isn't new and gripping enough to make the picture totally worth it.
You have to give the movie creit for the characters involved: Daniel Baldwin is great, as well as Donovan Leitch and Mario van Peebles himself, and in a way all figures are a bit over the top (in a ... Read More:

It must be Manhatten. The distance between the Warhol art scene and the Times Square porn scene seems to have been small. A "Midnight Cowboy" for the 90's.
This is one of my favorite films from the 90's. Certainly more of an edge than Oscar winners from the '90's Forrest Gump, Titanic and Shakespeare in Love.
Lili Taylor as Valerie Solonas is superb. The overall cast is excellent. Stephen Dorff as Candy Darling is ... irresistible. Going beyond the fine acting is the direction, Mary Harron making it all just too real. She also co-wrote the script with Daniel Minahan, who later directed "Series 7: The Contender". Without Harron's tight handling, this film probably would have just been odd. Now it's great and odd. Billy Name, who was responsible ... Read More:
