the most influential and seminal work to come out of hollywood on modern day warfare .
it is both stunning and philosophical with a very pluralistic look at the vietnam conflict where it has no sentimental observations about the victims but just a non chalant attitude to the protagonists who are involved in war as a casual everyday necessity.
it is neither patronising nor glorifying just seeking to express the perceived truth from the makers viewpoint and it reaches a celestial height both creatively and artistically .
matthew modine gives a great performance but the limelight is stolen by the cameos and short -lived but memorable characters played by a terrific cast of gifted actors .

In a war zone Luc Deveraux stops his officer Andrew Scott, killing innocent civilians. However both die in the struggle. Years later they are part of a reanimation programme all Universal Soldiers - perfect fighting machines controlled like robots. However Deveraux has memory flashbacks causing him to flee with a reporter, his commander also experiences memory residues and takes the remaining soldiers to go after Deveraux.
One of Van Damme's and Lundgren's best films - although that's not saying much. The plot is pretty basic although there is some reasonable moralising about the soldiers. The action isn't fancy but it's solid and, unlike it's sequel, it's not afraid to be violent. While it's not a classic it does allow some good scenes and is a bit ... Read More:

Raw Deal has the Aspect Ratio 2.35:1
Red Sonja has the Aspect Ratio 2.35:1
Red Heat has the Aspect Ratio 1.85:1
Total Recall has the Aspect Ratio 1.85:1
When you consider that some Retailers are selling it at £ 45 take my advice and buy it from Amazon Marketplace before it ends up being deleted.
My only Complaint is that Red Heat/Total Recall has the aspect ratio 1.85:1 Anamorphic and not 2.35:1 which I prefer.
Anyway its great Value and it comes in a very Classy Box - the image does not do it justice.

Kersey heads back to New York City to visit an old friend of his. Before he arrives there though Charlie (Bronson's friend) is attacked by the gang who dominates that area. He dies in Kersey's arms and Kersey is arrested for the murder. The ambitious police chief (good acting by Ed Lauter) releases him though, to sort of infiltrate the area and point out who to arrest. But when the violence in town gets too much, Kersey takes the matter into his own hands once again. And while he starts blowing away punk by punk, the other citizens cheer and begin doing the same. Soon a civil war is waged in NYC to take out the trash.
It is nice to see that the makers of Death Wish 3 tried to go a different way this time, rather than to make a carbon copy of the first two films. Although ... Read More:

Carl Weathers is perfect as a the quite but tough cop. Vanity shines as the gansters playful mistress. Together they are a recipe for laughs.
The plot isn't novel. What makes the film is great characters, and quality comic writing. Violence, drugs and sexuality are all covered in a light-hearted manner. There isn't anthing which would offend most adults.
Sharon Stone has a minor role as the target criminal's wife. She plays a cold character and there isn't much to be said about it.
I would recommend this film to fans of Schwarzenneger comedies and Jackie Chan Films. It has a more adult theme but there is a similar approach to humour.

Red Heat was a groundbreaking film in that it was the first American film to be filmed at Moscow's Red Square. Arnie plays the role of a Russian Police Officer with very little emotion which suited his style. Belushi is the brash American detective who adds a little more colour to the 'redness' of Arnie's character. A buddy buddy movie in the like of 48 Hours. This film was one of the main reasons why Rambo 3 flopped at the box office. Attitudes towards the Red Curtain were changing with the event of glasnost and perestroika and this politically correct film amply displays such trends. Fondly remembered for the retort by Arnie to Belushi's question.' 'How do you Russians entertain yourself ?' Answer ' Vodka'.

At times, Another 48 Hrs. seems less like a sequel to than a parody of the first 48 Hrs., especially when Nick Nolte, repeating his role from the earlier film, begins commenting on the clinched absurdity of the goings on. This time, Nolte risks life, limb and career as he obsessively tries to bring an elusive master criminal known as 'The Iceman' to justice. Eddie Murphy, who stole the show in the first 48 Hrs. as the wheeler-dealer convict who becomes Nolte's reluctant partner, is brought into the plot line of the second film when a contract is taken out on his life. The adversarial relationship between Nolte and Murphy, supposedly dissipated by the end of the first film, is revivified in the sequel via a couple of plot devices. Still, Murphy rallies to the occasion, in the process saving Nolte ... Read More:
