As I have never seen the stage show, I cannot compare the two. I have heard the music many times and always wanted to see it, now that I am able to I can say that it is one of the best musicals I have ever seen. The story is dramatic and sends shivers up your spine every 2 minutes. It takes you back in time to the point where I came out thinking that I should be wearing a corset and have my best puffy dress on. I love the attention to detail, not one thing looks out of place. The theatre looks amazing and the cinimatography is very good. I also thought that the actors fitted the roles perfectly, and their voices surprised me. Gerard Butler's voice was amazing, even though he had not sung before, he was the best phantom I've heard (though I am ... Read More:

If you have seen many American films over the years and find them cheesy and predictable then you better give this one a miss as it uses the same boring old formula. However the effects are good quality and makes good use of Blu Ray. Please guys start producing some more original films rather than sticking to the tried and tested American Dream rubbish!

I really wanted to like this film as it was an attempt to get the global warming message across to a lot of people. Unfortunately it was a bad attempt. The change in climate and its consequences happen so fast that no one will take this seriously as a possible scenario and the way that it is dealt with is idiotic. Apparently all humans are stupid, even the supposed stars of the film. In a library full of wooden furniture, they burn books - paper - to keep warm. Almost no one has the sense to stay indoors in their own home during a storm (which only lasts 6 or 7 days, so most homes would easily have the supplies). And they really missed a trick with the zoo animals in New York: the film has the consequence of global warming for animals being summed up by the ... Read More:

i would definitively recommend this box set as not only do you get the 2 disk film but also 8 color postcards and the full movie soundtrack. seeing as how you can buy the same cd for more than what you pay for this box set. In all this is the best buy.
Gerard Butlers performance in the film was outstanding he brought the phantom to life. The music was brilliant, the pure power of it had me on the edge of my seat.

I always scan people's comments who score low as this gives an indication of satisfaction or any flaws that others miss. Eastwood is my favourite actor and his talent as director with this offering has matched his acting.
On the cover it states that two Academies were awarded to Penn and Robbins, and during most of the film I couldn't see why...but this film builds it's intensity towards the end and although I'd guessed the perpetrator I still felt compelled by where it was leading you. I would agree with those who say characters lacked emotional depth as this was clear on Penn's character mainly, as Robbins' lack of depth was due to his past, understandable, but Penn showed little grief after his loss..? With some parents they can just "switch off" which I think ... Read More:

I didn't expect a masterpiece with this movie and I certainly didn't get one. What I did get though was a pretty entertaining 90 minutes or so.It was much as I expected it to be and in that sense 'Poseidon' did it's job.
The acting is hammy at times, the dialogue is cheesy in the extreme and the storyline is overly familiar. But the effects are OK,the action kicks in quickly and the movie isn't overlong. As stated earlier, this isn't a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but as a piece of Saturday night entertainment it definitely does it's job.
Watch it,forget about it but be prepared to be entertained for a short while. Not bad.

Sumptuous, rich, lush and inviting. Like a gilt-edged dream, Joel Schumacher's "Phantom of the Opera" is a triumphant love note to beauty, song and scenery.
Adapted from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical (and Gaston Leroux's novel), this movie ends up being beautiful in every scene, with solid acting and and a tragic antihero. The singing, the sumptuous sets, the acting -- all are the ingredients of a musical tour de force.
In 1870, a Paris opera house is under new management -- just as diva Carlotta (Minnie Driver, a glorious diva-from-hell) is almost killed by a stage curtain, and stomps out. Fortunately Christine Daae (Emmy Rossum), taught by a mystery tutor, can take over the soprano's role, and soon becomes famous for her singing. Even better, it catches the attention ... Read More:

I watched this film on my new Toshiba HD-E1 HD DVD player through a Toshiba 37X3030DB 1080p HD TV last night and couldn't believe how stupid the film is. I received the film at no cost along with another HD title of my choice thanks to Toshiba's offer with the aforementioned HD DVD player.
First of all, it's just a tacky remake of The Perfect Storm (good film) which is a remake of Titanic (excellent film in my view). The plot is so lame it makes one treat it like a comedy - i was laughing most of the way through because there were flaws just about everywhere. For example, how can a drowning passenger (who's practically dead) manage to understand the engine controls of a gigantic cruise ship and then press a myriad of buttons within 5 seconds of arriving there?! It was a miracle in itself ... Read More:
