Ridley Scott has always been a master of striking visuals and he's found a good partner in Polish cinematographer Slawomir Idziak (both were Oscar nominated for this stirring war film). With its sharper imagery and full-blooded sound, this is a prime candidate for Blu-ray and it doesn't disappoint.
This was on my Christmas wish list and unfortunately I was actually given it! What an absolute pile of utter trash. Appallingly researched, utterly tasteless and not even vaguely humorous. Don't even be tempted if you find this at a boot sale for 5p - it ain't worth the cost of electricity to play the wretched thing!

as someone from Edinburgh who lived and went to plenty of the places mentioned in Trainspotting i have to say read the book the book instead which has the full content and message rather than just a comic short hand for what was happening at the time. It made fashionista fools think that taking hard drugs was a nice activity and gave them kudos and brought in too many people too Edinburgh looking for that lifestyle.
I have never managed it all the way through and think it is just an alternative advert for Britain for the naively trendy or people who misguided enough to think that the pathos and dark humor wasn't there to balance the story...great cast though and on the whole well acted but an overrated footnote to late 90's Britain

Jamie Bell plays Hallam, a messed up teenager living in Scotland with voyeuristic tendencies. It's a year after his beloved mother's suicide. Hallam deals with his mother's death by spying on people. He lives with his dad & his dad's girlfriend Verity (Claire Forlani) (mistress when his mother was alive) & his sister Jenny.
Hallam decides to move to London. He gets a job washing dishes at a hotel. Here he meets Kate (Sophia Myles) & he becomes obsessed with her because she has a strong resemblance to his late mother.
`Hallam Foe' is an above average indie film. I enjoyed it, but I didn't like it enough to go out of my way to watch it again. While Hallam has depth & charm I can't say the same for the rest of the cast, especially ... Read More:

I dislike this film considerably, though my own peeves have nothing to do with the acting, the special effects, the set, and so on. I'm basically upset at the simplicity of this film. It asks very few questions about why the attack on Pearl Harbour took place. But Pearl Harbour was the event that drew the United States into the Second World War. It is on a par with Hitler's invasion of Poland, so you'd think that a film with this title would treat the event with the seriousness it deserves. Not so.
Just in case you think my complaints are purely hypothetical, there have been some excellent revisionist histories published in the more than half century since the bombing took place. With the passage of time and the cooling of tempers, legitimate questions have been raised ... Read More:

I'm not a film buff, but I know what I like.
Both films are a bit silly, far-fetched and in places, too dark, which is the film making cheat used to disguise lack of graphics!
Having now watched these, I've had Predator 2 recommned which I've been told, explains a few things to help link to these two.
AVP 1 is good, but the pryamid is too advanced for words and the whole plot line rather thin. However I loved the inter-action between man and 'beast'.
AVP 2's plot line is also rather scratchy, but has one of the most disturbing scenes I've seen for a long time (but I only watch tame horrors). I case you were wondering, I mean the bit in the hospital......

The real problem is that this film attempts to do too much and takes too long to do it.
Can anyone seriously believe that one man, Rafael McCawley, (Ben Affleck),
could get shot down in the Battle of Britain, escape from occupied France, shoot down umpteen Japanese airplanes over Hawaii, rescue drowning sailors from Pearl Harbor, take part in the "Doolittle raid" and still have time to fight his best friend for the leading lady? I'm out of breath just reading all this!
It has been rightly pointed out that "Tora!" "Tora!" "Tora!" gives a better account of the Pearl Harbour attack.
Actually, the film "Battle of Britain" gives a much better account of the actions on the British side of the pond too. It is really annoying to hear a 'British ... Read More:
