The film started with an interesting plot... Nim and her father are living alone on an island when one day her father takes a trip out on his boat and gets lost at sea. Nim asks for help by emailing her favourite author Alex Rover (Jodie Foster). Alex Rover who is scared of everything sets out to save the day with the help of her favourite self-imagined adventure character. This was executed well and acted brilliantly by Jodie Foster. What lets the film down though is the way the ending seems rushed, the father returns too quickly at the end. The film focuses only on the journey and not at all on the destination. As I have never seen the stage show, I cannot compare the two. I have heard the music many times and always wanted to see it, now that I am able to I can say that it is one of the best musicals I have ever seen. The story is dramatic and sends shivers up your spine every 2 minutes. It takes you back in time to the point where I came out thinking that I should be wearing a corset and have my best puffy dress on. I love the attention to detail, not one thing looks out of place. The theatre looks amazing and the cinimatography is very good. I also thought that the actors fitted the roles perfectly, and their voices surprised me. What can be said that hasnt? This is a beautiful movie but I only hope everyone saw it in theatres, the bigger the screen the better for this movie. The commentary is worth a listen but be warned they liked the movie on the big Imax screen too, and mention this a lot through out the movie how you can see more if its an Imax print. This made me feel a little cheated and I dont think they should have gone on about it so explicitly but that aside this is going to be a beautiful rich movie with style however big your screen is. I bought this film (on budget DVD) as a last-minute impulse purchase. It was one of several movies bought for a girlie weekend in: the only one I'd never heard of before... and the only one I would EVER voluntarily watch again (indeed, I already have: thrice). This is a beautifully-crafted story about love, families and lies. With superbly pitched performances by all concerned and a NOT straightforward ending. HIGHLY recommended. >>More Details

I know theres more to movies than a pretty face but that said Angelina in this is just so incredibly gorgeous you end up glued to the screen. Everything she does she looks amazing. The film has quite a few stunning action scenes and very classy done. Watching a tough gorgeous woman do amazing stunts and kick some butt can never be a bad thing. I'd definatly watch again so in my book deserves its 5 star. Just what I seek in a good action film. The motorbike scene is great. >>More Details

I'd like to give some information on the Special Edition DVD of this movie rather than talk about the movie itself since reviews of it can alrady be found at the older version's page. Unfortunately there are still no subtitles but this edition offers a brandnew audio commentary by director Vadim Jean (mainly talking about the technical aspects of the movie making process but nonethelesss interesting), 11 deleted scenes (with our without commentary, 5 of them feature Gerard Butler), and a video from production designer Simon Hicks who unfortunately suffered the same fate as Sarah in the movie and also decided to say goodbye to his family and friends by recording a farewell video.
