directed by: Arthur Rankin Jr., Jules Bass

This video is a good adaptiation of J. R. R. Tolkien's classic children's novel. There are many positive things to it. Yet there are also some negative aspects to it, because, after all, it is a human production.
The positive is it introduces the story to an audience that might not pick up a book, or people who have never heard of Tolkien (imagine that!). I can honestly say this movie is responsible for getting me into Tolkien. We had Disney, and I watched this and the sequel (Return of the King), although I remembered this the most. When I saw the book at a flea market back when I was 12 or 13, I bought it (I am now 20). Had it not been for this movie, I might have passed that book bye. Therefore, I'm heavily indebted to this movie, because ... Read More:

Frank,Dean, Sammy and Bing all shone in this fantastical musical, they really showed on screen what great entertainers they were, the kind of people who we need today in cinema.
The story about gangsters, gambling and the Rat pack ,was genius. I enjoyed secenes such as the transformation of Robbo's casino to a revival meeting, where Guy Gisbourne (Peter Falk) gets mugged, the pool match between Frank and Dean and Sammy wrecking Gisbourne's casino with his machine gun.Quotes said in the film, "I think somethin's wrong with his throat" and "I wonder where he's going? Well, wherever it is, he's in for a big surprise when he gets back." were priceless. Loads of entertaing songs were packed into this glittering film, such as Sammy's "No one gets a ... Read More:

This is one of my favourite movies. Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, where can you go wrong? Frank is adorable in this movie and Gene is, how shall I say, hot! It has excellent songs in it, my fav being 'Modern man'. It's no Singing in the rain, but definatley worth an oggle.

with the amazing animation and the trademark singalongs you know this is a disney film what can you say when the people at disney pump out great film after great film? well for me this film doesnt quite deserve the prestigus 5 star mark purley because i thought that the story seemed very very rushed but apart from that the characters are great physically and vocually (espseacially mr smee)and the constantly present "disney magic" is there so i am not complaining (that much) definatly worth a look young or old

Monroe plays a rather promiscuous bar girl in Phoenix who hopes to get to Hollywood in a kind of her real life story, enters the rodeo champ from Montana as the exuberant yet virginal red-blooded cowboy,DON MURRAY who has come to phoenix for the rodeo competition and to find the angelic gal of his dreams .

The movie deals with a great human dilemma as to what is more important to be happy ,your perception of an ideal or your contentment with the reality,Murray is superb as he assumes this show girl from a cheap joint in a flashy vulgar dress TO BE his angel and monroe shuns the false image ,yet agrees to the charade till the rodeo ends for a fee ,

of course as murray wins he then compels her to take the bus back to montana .

I first discovered this film when I was around 5 and 11 years later it's still the best and most original film I've ever seen. Amazing and often very surreal, I guarantee you will have seen nothing like it. I've watched it countless times and yet never get bored. Watch this film...you won't regret it.

Summer Stock [1950] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Eddie Bracken, Gloria DeHaven, Marjorie Main
directed by: Charles Walters, Dave O'Brien, Tex Avery

The filming of this movie may have been anything but smooth, and the plot not worthy of its two stars, but the overall impression one gets from watching this movie is one of joy and delight. Judy looks very good with a little extra weight: she looks healthy and happy. The colour is rich and warm. gene Kelly looks superb and dances brilliantly. Above all the film is joyful and melodic, right from the start. I especially love 'Happy harvest', which Judy sings on a tractor, Kelly's dance to 'Dig for your dinner' and 'Friendly star', which must be one of Judy's lovliest ballads. I am surprised no one gave this musical more stars - so here goes; a five star rating from me.

If you are looking for a film that is intended to rouse patriotism around the stars and stripes, will have you singing along to Yankee Doodle that's in the soundtrack, and want to spend a night delighting in the state of the "union" then this film is for you.

In an attempt to hunt out the communists in Hawaii in the early 1950s HUAC send an investigative pair. John Wayne delivers a good performance, as does Olson (they really do make the all American pair!), but despite his character's best efforts to uncover the 'Reds' in court they plead the 5th ammendment and according to the narrative go free.

What this is is a very good example of an anti communist film, and little else. It is enjoyable watch, however, if only because it made me ... Read More:
