First watched this on the tv and was hooked. Excellent costumes and had me in stitches. Gave this a 4 only due to missing out the part where Amanda is asked to sing which on the tv she sang 'down town'. I believe this made the witty comments afterward confusing for those who have only seen it on the DVD, I also believe it missed out the crucial first signs of Darcy's affection for Amanda. However I still enjoyed it and will definitely be watching it again

This is one of the worst films I've seen in my life! When you are watching it,you absolutely can't stand Jane, who is presented sometimes as a mean and sometimes as an old spinster. The worst thing about the film is the way it was shot.Director did a poor job, especially when characters are walking,or dancing because it's like camera is moving as well,so sometimes it was so bad for my eyes. After you watched this film the only conclusion is that Jane Austen was a sad little creature-a plain Jane.

How such unutterable tripe came to be created is beyond me. Despite distinguished creators, a decent cast and a respectable budget, we got something that was badly written, badly acted and looked cheap. Which doesn't even begin to adequately describe the mind-boggling badness of it all.
Their historical and archaeological advisor seems to have been present only to ensure that all traces of accuracy were removed. Alarm bells already started ringing in my head as soon as the Templars were mentioned - writers of fiction seem unable to escape the rubbish about them being guardians of secret knowledge and all that rot which Dan Brown and a host of pseudo-historians got rich on. Needless to say, 'Bonekickers' jumped on the bandwagon quicker than you could ... Read More:

This is a well-made entertaining show. Starts out with much promise but kind of runs out of steam. The character development is excellent but it is at the expense of the plot, which all but evaporates after about the third episode. Great performances pity the storyline couldn't match up.

Prolific English novelist Iris Murdoch (The Sea, the Sea, Under the Net) was a lover of words and the power of language. She was quite the avant-garde free-thinker as a young professor and the shy, stuttering John Bayley seemed an unlikely match for her, but fall in love they did and they shared a long and loving marriage. The movie focuses on Iris' battle with Alzheimer's disease, which gradually robbed her of the ability to use her beloved words. John cared for her and loved her until the end.
This is simply the best movie I've seen in a long time; the acting is superb as is the script. Judi Dench gives a stunning performance as Iris. It is heartbreaking to watch her steady decline, knowing how it must end. She was nominated for, but did not receive an ... Read More:

Lets face it, Madame Bovary was always going to be difficult to produce. The story really centres around Dr Bovary, and Emma Bovary is his second wife, and you have to read about his first marriage until you get to Emma. Although I am a fan of Flaubert and Madame Bovary, as well as many others, I can also see where a large group of people are coming from when they say that this book is one of the most boring written.Madame Bovary (Penguin Classics) if you would like to read the book.
This production is not a straight transposition of the novel, opening as it does after Dr Bovary has lost his first wife. We see in this drama Dr Bovary getting Emma to become his second wife. Emma has been brought up spoiled by her father. Dr Bovary has been brought up by his ... Read More:

All performances in this film are remarkable, but especially Linus Roache stands out with a superb performance, as the man with a conscience, who made it possible for Winston Churchill to expose Chamberlains aid to Nazi Germany.
A truly terrible film. I still watched it to the end in the same way people watch the wreckage from car accidents. It was un-intentionaly funny, it has the same other worldly view of London that Notting Hill had. The only people i really had any time for were the old couple. All the rest i couldnt care less for. Bunch of pretentious idiots.
That annoying young bloke chatting-up anything that moves, where was his accent from? Ewan mcgregor playing a North London gay, how obvious. The couple being ever so nice and relaxed about their imminent divorce, is that for real?
Basicly i cant understand what the films about, apart from saying; Come up to Hampstead Heath in the summer! its really nice, you may find the odd gay hanging around in the bushes, and meet the odd burk, ... Read More:

This is a gorgous dramatisation of a great book, something to watch again and again.
I taped this when the BBC broadcasted it, fully prepared to buy it as soon as the region 2DVD was released. I'm still waiting for that to happen. It's a complete mystery to me why it has to take so long.
So for now I just keep hoping my old VHS tapes won't degenerate too fast.
