I enjoyed this film as a real classic, the story is far better and more comprehensive than the newer War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise.
The special effects are dated but I'm sure they were cutting edge at the time, altogether an enjoyable and intriguing film.

War Of The Worlds - Dvd [1954]

starring: Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tremayne, Robert Cornthwaite, Sandro Giglio
directed by: Byron Haskin

This DVD release is great. The movie is back in its true glory as only seen when shown on the big screen. Now you can see it in all its Technicolor glory. This movie is based on H.G. Wells classic novel, and is a classic itself. And remember there was no CGI when this was produced. And you will swear you saw a real alien die, as the blood appears to stop pumping through the veins in its arm.

The movie starts off like a newsreel of its time. Showing W.W. I, W.W.II and the war of the future...that leads into the invasion of the Earth by the Martians and the War of the Worlds. They land in what appears to be a Meteor and nothing man can do is able to stop their invasion. We are helpless and it is well portrayed as we follow Dr. Forrester, ... Read More:

I have now purchased two different copies of Mclintock. This Wayne/Ohara film is a gem of a comedy. However please dont be tempted to buy the DVD. I have the original VHS release and believe me this old, well worn and well used video shows alot better than the DVD versions on the market. I thought a had originally bought a pirate movie the copy was that bad. Save yourself the time of returning the DVD and dont bother.

DVD : Follow That Dream [1961] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

Follow That Dream [1961] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Elvis Presley, Arthur O'Connell, Anne Helm, Joanna Moore, Jack Kruschen
directed by: Gordon Douglas
May 11, 2004

FTD has a durable reputation as a genuinely funny comedy, and one of The King's best movies. The latter may be true but then most of Elvis's films are dreadful. Though the star acts quite well here, the movie has dated badly. It's characterised by a particularly twee brand of lame humour, the story and characters are wafer thin, and - the title song excepted - the soundtrack numbers are forgettable.

The Last Voyage [1960] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Robert Stack, Dorothy Malone, George Sanders, Edmond O'Brien, Woody Strode
directed by: Andrew L. Stone
October 24, 2006

The cast of this early colour disaster movie is heavyweight - George Sanders as the captain and fifties favourites Robert Stack and Dorothy Malone as the main love interest - but there's no doubt about the real star of The Last Voyage, for the film makers sank a real ocean liner, the legendary Ile de France, in order to make it.

This accounts for the gripping realism of the film from beginning to end - those tilting art deco interiors and grimy, slowly flooding engine room spaces are all real.

The dialogue is a little hackneyed, particularly in the scenes of normal shipboard life before the explosion, but once things start to go seriously wrong it can't help but keep you on the edge of your seat. Well worth watching, if scarcely George Sanders' ... Read More:

Caprice [1967]

April 04, 1991

An extraordinarily funny and heart warming story about Doris Day who gets caught up in a net of lies and is mistakingly taken for a spy of a rival cosmetic company. She is thought of wanting to steal the secret recipe for a water deterrent hair spray and has to find a way out of this mess. On the way she falls in love with an interpol agent who happens to be entangled into the same mess...
Absolutely hillarious, what a pity it is not available on the European market.
