This is a great example of the type of ensemble comedy series that the Americans do so well. A great central cast, quirky storylines and entertaining guest appearances make this a must watch.
Would recommend this on a par with Scrubs, How I met Your Mother and Arrested Development.

I completley agree with another reviewer..you have to be a little bit mad to actually enjoy Ally to the full.
Make no bones, this isn't no Friends, no Sex in The City, nowhere near a 'girly series'. This is an incredible and mindblowing, and possibly life-changing series that is so well written its almost impossible to comprehend the intelligence of the writer.
Ally will make you cry, male or female, because it gets through all your barriers and certain episodes just hit raw nerves that seem so well protected. The comedy is not canned laughter, its sublime, and was never really intended to be a 'laugh a minute series', its a lot more serious than that.
All of the characters are fantastic in their own right but Ally and John Cage ... Read More:

Season 3 was great! With Elaine wanting to be a mom, Ally taking prozac, John SPANKING Nelle its all hilarious, but there is the tragedy of Billy's brain tumour! Ally, though, gets more annoying (if possible!) and personally, Larry made her a little more supportable. Nelle gets more subzero and Ling gets colder and John becomes stranger. But, Elaine, my favorite character gets better and you see a good side of her in Blue Christmas and Just Friends. I recommend Seeing Green (Ally takes Prozac), Blue Christmas (Elaine wants to adopt a baby), Just Friends (Ally thinks Johns the one and Elaine is tired of her image), The Oddball Parade (Elaine and Ally audition for a contest to be Tina Turners back up singer), Boy Next Door (Billy, sadly dies), Hope and ... Like season 1, season 2 is really funny and heart warming. My fav. episode is civil wars and those lips, those hands. Greg German and Peter Mcnichol was so funny. If your planning to buy ally dvd's buy either season 1 or season 2. Im planning to buy season 4 but still choosing bet. that or will n grace season 5. Anyway, season 1 n 2 are d best so far...

Very watchable especially for Ally McBeal fans of the series. Better than the soap operas we now have on TV - the characters are fresher, cleaner and more inspiring than the gloomy cast of down and outs in English 'soaps'. A few later episodes in this series become boring with added excessive shouting/arguing which spoils the style of 'Ally McBeal'. This multiple CD set prepares one for the next season of quirky characters who compliment each other well in the serious setting of a law firm, with occasional (surreal) flights of fancy.

Where to begin? This is without a doubt one of the worst films that I have ever, ever seen. Boring, cliched, obvious (and that was just Ricki Lake's 'acting'). There are undiscovered Peruvian tribes that could quite easily have guessed the ending from watching the first half-hour (although this would be a flagrant abuse of their human rights). Overuse of co-incidence as a plot device and ridiculousness abounds as the film struggles to maintain the illusion that such a palpably nonsensical situation would ever be possible.

This is sentimental, escapist rubbish of the worst Catherine Cookson kind. I am surprised that Brendan Fraser ever agreed to participate in this crime against cinema.

I saw the movie first on an airliner to the US. that was the fastest flight I have ever been on. Time Flew. Then I bought it. It gives a wonderful description of how life challenges can be seen and solved. To me it is like a schoolbook.

Worth a watch if you like films about dancing. Little predictable but the dance sequences are great. Vanessa Williams is a little bit cheesey but dont let that put you off.
