Having watched the more recent The Other Boleyn Girl and then this version again, I felt this version gave a more accurate portrayal of the tensions and infighting that were present at the Tudor court. Jodhi May, an outstanding actress, was superb as Anne Boleyn and you could feel her terror as the inevitable tragedy was unfolding around her. Also, having English actresses portraying the two central characters was a plus: no offence to Natalie Portman or Scarlett Johannsen, but their accents were all over the place, and this was a Hollywood production after all with "name" actresses in the lead roles. On the face of it, I shouldn't have enjoyed these three. I'm not a fan of zombie movies, generally finding them deathly boring, and I don't play video games, so I came to these movies completely uninitiated in the RE universe. But I have to say that I found all three RE movies extremely enjoyable. Are they high art? Of course not. But for what they are, they produce the goods. I think the addition of a fairly solid plotline and generally rounded out characters lifts them above the average zombie movie. My only complaint is that in RE3 we are never told what happens to most of the surviving characters at the end of RE2. The first couple of episodes are thinner than expected and I wondered what I'd got myself into but patience is rewarded as the series develops: the plots improve dramatically and the actors settle in to their roles. Not as good as the HBO/Baltimore shows but it may evolve some more. >>More Details

This workaday biopic calls itself 'Sylvia' but it might just as easily have been 'Ted'. In the 50s, Plath and Hughes were poetry's Posh and Becks and the whole film hinges on their relationship, wiping out in one fell swoop the rich pickings of her early life and all but ignoring her poetry. We get the last few lines of 'Daddy', but virtually nothing about Plath's late father Otto. Her two children appear from nowhere, and her relentless pursuit of the domestic ideal (so lovingly detailed in her letters and diaries) is reduced to a fit of cake-baking. She had a notoriously complex relationship with her mother Aurelia but you'd never guess it from 'Sylvia' (although Paltrow's own mother Blythe Danner is perfectly cast in the role). Having seen quite a few of Adam Sandler's films, I was disappointed by this one. For me it was lots of nonsense scenes stuck together (e.g. his frostbitten foot being battered - what was that about?, or assulting people in a restaurant for no clear reason, or assulting a mugger lying down on a pavement etc etc). Even the romance theme didn't stack up and left me cold. I much preferred Happy Gilmore or Big Daddy. Buy for the kids only. >>More Details

it actually pained me to rate this at three stars because there is so much about i liked, however there was a also so much a didn't like. to call this film a tragedy would be overstating it but i did feel it seriuosly let down the story of the Queen of Curves. Gretchen Mol was superb and far and away better than the over, airbrushed, naff imitation i had expected. i felt her performance really understood about Bettie and captured that spark in her that made us all crazy for her. She seemed to really care for the character and that made the viewer care too. The cinematography has not been mentioned in many reviews i have read but it truly deserves to be. Harvey Keitel may have run off with what plaudits there were for this hidden gem of a movie, but for me it is the performance of William Hurt that infuses the film with it's thoughtful, mellow, non-idealogical flavour. There are a couple of scenes which Keitel and Hurt perform memorably together, one involving a collection of photographs and the final scene of the movie which is 'Augie Wren's Christmas Story' originally written by Paul Auster, and the creative spark behind the writing of the script. If you were to watch these two scenes alone I'd still recommend buying this film. The dialogue is sharp and the direction leaves the actors to act, allowing them time to deliver as much with body language as with the spoken word. The film/sound/extras have been well reviewed by others. As far as film goes it depends what you are wanting. If you are after a shoot 'em up full of zombies being shot as the heros go from A to B, to C, to D.. then you are in for a treat. If you are after an intellectual challenge then prepare to do a crossword at the same time. Some decent acting (shoot zombie, kick zombie, hit zombie) by some attractive looking actresses/actors and Milla plays her part well. >>More Details

I stumbled on this movie quite "accidentally" on TV, zapping around, and I was transfixed. I had not heard of this movie before and I wonder how, it is breathtaking. Point taken from other reviewers who speak of cliches, poor characters etc, but I actually see this as a strong point. The characters seem quite rigid in some sort of stereotype, and this makes this movie quite orginal I think. Anyway, I had a great time, the action is just non stop, new things happen all the time, it is an amazing rollercoaster ride in space. The special effects are indeed incredible, everybody will have to agree on that. Anyway: a movie to have a great time, but probably not worth watching more than once. >>More Details
