Enjoyable, mindless, and very funny. Downey Jr. was surprisingly brilliant. Little plot or real substance but who cares, just fun hokum and the best film I've seen for a while. Recommended.

After a life threatening run in with a group of terrorists, weapons maker Tony Stark (Downey) sets to work on a new weapon.
After Marvel comics Spider-Man and Incredible Hulk were made into blockbuster smash hits, the trend grew with another infamous comic book being adapted and based on Stan Lee's series; this is a very effective exciting Sci-Fi thriller.
Robert Downey Jr (Chaplin) stars as weapons genius Tony Stark, an intelligent man with a professional life. At times films can have a central hero with a bizarre under-explained background but Favreau dives into Stark's life before Iron Man by projecting a simplistic idea into the opening scenes. Stark is receiving an award and we take a look at photos of his past ... Read More:

The overwhelming success of the Spider-Man and X-Men trilogies revitalised interest and credibility in superhero movies since the original Batman and Superman film franchises fell into great decline. Since then, floodgates have been opened, allowing all kinds of Marvel heroes to have a shot at cinematic stardom.
Although (in my opinion) there haven't been any truly horrible Marvel films, the majority of these haven't lived up to the hype as they could've done. For example, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four (the first film) had all the necessary tools to be on a par with any of the X-Men/Spider-Man films, yet they weren't.
So now, we have Iron Man, the next Marvel legend in line for a big superhero film. When I saw the first trailer, ... Read More:

I greatly enjoyed this film and it was a delight to watch an escapist SF/Superhero story that was presented to adults rather than 12 year olds. The detail in the sets and SFX combined with the plausible(ish) story and excellent acting makes for a satisfying experience. The blu-ray is very good and includes a full disc worth of extras, all in HD, that are actually worth watching. It's refreshing to see concept art presented in 1080 for example because it's possible to appreciate the artwork rather than just the concept (if you see what I mean).
So, good story, good production, good acting, good transfer, good extras.

The animation is incredible: the facial expressions, the body movement, the play of light, the attention to detail takes your breath away. Add to this a superb soundtrack, and you realise why it got such good critical reviews.
It is a traditional story, but has been told without so much of that awful syrup and candy so beloved by Disney and, I regret to say, Pixar. The mock 'reality program' slant was inspirational, as was the cutting forward to dialogue that explained events in the past. Sorry folks, you have to pay attention to this film. You are not spoon fed the story like Disney and Pixar do. You require some brains to follow the story line.
As for the negative comments on the film's dialogue and 'commentaries', come on man, ever ... Read More:

'The Big Lebowski' has been dubbed a 'cult' movie and with reason. It is a movie for a very specific clientele and one that is likely to disappoint a more mainstream audience.
First of all, it is not THAT funny. It definitely has its good moments thank to the script and the more than able cast. But don't be fooled: those moments are the exception and not the norm.
The movie seems to be too pleased with itself and it certainly falls short of the comic brilliance of 'Fargo'. The storyline is never plausible and after a while one fails to be even mildly interested with all the twists and turns of its kinky plot.
It is perhaps the quality acting that saves the whole enterprise in spite of its very obvious shortcomings. All in all, ... Read More:

OK the FX of Tron are nothing to todays. But this film shows the level of CGI in 1982 the extra features illustrate how the FX are achieved and what a struggle this film was. Also the extra features tell the story of Tron from its earliest incarnations to the finished film. The film itself is not only a great story but it shows the level of computing at the time. Tron is in fact an Antivirus in a world before antivirus programs were even thought of.

Seabiscuit is a beautiful and heartwarming film if ever there was one- and uplifting at the same time. A true story, Seabiscuit rose to fame during the Great American Depression, along with 3 extraordinary men- the "too-tall" jockey Red (Johnny) Pollard, owner Charles Howard and gifted horse-trainer Tom Smith. Seabiscuit was an unimpressive horse, with legs that didn't run straight all the way down. Beaten and broken, and with only 1 win from his first 17 runs, he was bought by C. S Howard for the rock-bottom price of $8000. Howard was looking for a distraction following the death of his young son, and the subsequent divorce from his wife. Tom Smith, an obscure and little heard of trainer, was to train the horse, and Red Pollard to be jockey.
When I was about 5 I saw this on TV and have loved it ever since. We had it recorded on video but was chucked away. It took me years to track it down again but once I had, I was so happy and relived so many of the things I loved about this classic.
The story is that of a unicorn who overhears men talking about her being the last of her kind, disbelieving this, the unicorn goes on a quest to find others like herself. Along the way she is captured by a witch and meets Schmendrick the Magician, as well as Molly Grue, Prince Lir, King Haggard and The Red Bull.
This was made in the early '80's on a low budget, therefore the animation is not what you would expect from a Disney or Dreamworks animation but is still fantastic and will capture your imagination.
I for one, never looked at the sea the ... Read More:

It doesn't take a genius to see why this film has become a cult classic given it's satrical Raymond Chandler stylised story and offbeat humour. Of course, many viewers won't like it, but those that do see it as a classic.
Goodman excels as a sad, deluded but lovable ex-Vietnam veteran. Bridge's brilliantly juxtaposed neurotic cool dude performance apparently even surpassed the Coen brothers best expectations. Turturro makes a brief, but memorable appearance.
I am hesitant to recommend this film, because you have to see it and decide for yourself. It's either somewhat disappointing (the critics opinion), or it just hits the spot.
