Malkovich is once again mesmerising as the tragic but memorable Lennie, a simple minded man born into a cruel world. Senise plays his inseparable buddy and guardian, George, and you feel for him as he struggles hard to cope with looking after the difficult Lennie, mainly because the harsh world doesn't have the time or patience to understand such a man whose behavior can be a little worrying and eccentric. The stretched out wheat fields make a great movie landscape and the mood of the era is quite well defined, it seems. Then you come to the humanity of the famous story, the painful humanity that will not leave you, just as the pain will not leave George, who is forced into making an unenviable decision by circumstances you sort of sense coming. ... The 'motion capture' is utterly pointless. Why not just use the actors as usual; you've filmed them anyway! It just proves a distraction in what is a very dull film. The miscasting and modern dialect ensure that the film comes over as a complete mess.

I was happily surprised by this film. It had a distant Lord of the Rings feel to it but was still uniquely exciting with its own individual storyline. I had wanted to see this film for so long and I am so glad I have now, I was really moved by this and actually had a tear in my eye in some parts. A good story for kids and adults alike with a really sweet dragon!

I just watched this movie, I was just so amazed with Bale, how beautifully he carried that movie on his shoulders with a very stunning performance!! It's a very great and moving movie, and one shouldn't think that it's as old as it is! Well, really all I can say is that this one to watch!

This film surprised me in more ways than one: Rowan Atkinson was much better than in Mr. Bean, for starters. Yet another thing that surprised me was how funny it actually was, I expected something on a par with 'School of Rock' which I have previously reviewed (look for 'school of rocks and pebbles and stuff' if you wish to read it), but it was just in a very different league. For example, 'Johnny English' has plenty of laugh out loud moments, and an ending which is entertaining, not just some big shoot out( the coat scene is pure gold.), so why the four stars?
There are laugh out loud moment, lots, however some jokes are just overused: certain jokes are nearly as familiar as,
"Duck!"
"Where?" Then something hits the hero on the forehead. Wow. ... Read More:

This is one for the boy's...the action sequences, chase scenes and fight scenes between inmates all make for a typical lad's film.
Being a girl, I really enjoyed this film - Cage and Malkovich are a great pair and Cusack is very entertaining in his role.
The film is well cut and the after effects for the time - particularly in the final sequence are impressive!
The action is never-ending and the fight isn't over til the very end.
Overall, a highly recommended film.

I've heard lots of good reviews about this movie and decided to watch it. Of course, this is all a matter of opinion but this movie is seriously wierd (a characteristic I usually welcome) but it's greatest 'no-no' was lack of direction. After finishing the movie I was like 'what the hell was this'. It seriously felt like the creators of it were mocking you after having waisted over an hour of your precious time.
On a more objective note, the acting and direction were very good, it's the story that brings it down like a rock to the bottom of a deep-deep river.

John M and Dustin H were outstanding in their roles as father and son. It is set almost identically as the stage version and manages to transfer the plays stage spectacle on to the small screen. If you're a fan of Arthur Miller then you won't be disappointed. Worth a viewing.

This film adaptation is possibly one of the best adaptations I have ever seen committed to film. Featuring a standout cast including John Malkovic, Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, Uma Thurman (in one of her first films) and Keanu Reeves, of those mentioned I would say that John Malkovic and Michelle Pfeiffer gave the best performances. Both are mesmerizing in their respective roles and the rest of the cast are also on form with Glenn Close relishing her part.
I also felt the production design and the costumes were top drawer and the direction from Stephen Frears was first class. He managed to get the feel for the period of the time, 18th Century France, to perfection and brought out some dazzling set pieces and excellent performances from his cast. It won 3 Oscars (Best ...
