I am one of those people who loves history movies and read books of like a child, but this movie it is not about history. Everyone should watch this movie for what it is, a superb cast, actors, costumes, panorama, etc... Effects are morethan beautiful executed, I am speachless and I recomend to everybody to buy this DV's simply for what it is, a superb film.
While there were some things about this series that had me pulling my hair out! I actually did enjoy this series. I am really into the Tudor history and I do know my fact from fiction. The part about Princess Margaret Tudor marrying with a Portuguese King left me thinking "Why OH Why"! Maybe eventually TV producers will listen and actually stick to fact. It seems crazy not to when the facts are just as exciting! It is sad that this has taken some of the gloss away from what is actually a really well made series.
Take it for what it is, there is still some historical ACCURACY in there and I like the fact they actually gave a mention to Henry's sisters, who both had amazing lives and are largely left out of all Tudor films completely (I ... Read More:

This film is fantastic. I rented it and watched it 5 times before I took it back and then ordered one from Amazon. I'm not in the habit of watching films repeatedly, and neither are my family, but even as my sister watched it for the first time she said "can we watch it again when it's finished"!
Perfect casting for the kid, he's amazing... adorable. The story is entirely music based, and even being completely tone deaf, I loved the whole thing. Buy it, rent it, whatever, just give it at least one watch :-)

Ignore those who say that this doesn't do justice to the books - it's different, yes, but in a good way. What's the point in sitting down to watch something that's EXACTLY like the book, or complaining because it doesn't EXACTLY match what you thought it should look like? The BBC made an amazing job of what was almost impossible to film, and the cast is just perfect. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays Steerpike with more than a touch of genius, and the chemistry between him and Fuchsia is spot-on... Everything about this is awe-inspiring; the sets, the scripts, the acting. Admittedly, Warren Mitchell's portrayal of Barquentine is more comical and capricious than the fearsome and powerful character in the book, but it works. Likewise, Irma Prunesquallor seems ... This is a great follow up to the first series, and although I thought that was great, I think the second series is better and has grown up. I think it is faster paced than the first series and less sex and violence for the sake of it, I felt sometimes that the first series put it in there for shock value. This series, you begin to really understand the characters, their plotting and way of thinking. Not sure how they can keep it up for all his wives, they may have to kill off 2 per series now! Also, not sure how Jonathan Rhys Meyers will turn into the fat king he became in the later years, however looking forward to finding out!
Even though I watched this on TV, bought the series as well, as this is one I will definitely be watching again. Looks especially ... Read More:

GOD,this is a bad film,so disappointing to see the great mr allen churn out such dross,script-poor,acting-very poor,characters-unlikeable,the whole thing makes very little sense, even the stunning mrs johansson can't make it watchable, and just a side point jonathan rhys meyers, playing "a poor irish boy",presumably under direction, adopts an accent posher than any of the toff family he marries in to.i'm writing this as i watch the film and every scene confirms my opinion.

It shows the vanity and hypocrisy of England 200 years ago. Strange but becky seemed to have the secret of eternal youth never ageing in the film once she was adult. Nice to have no bad language nor explicit sex.
