This slow, boring at times, movie is a classic. It gets played on my dvd player during bouts of insomnia or drunkeness or when i smokeweed. It has a Terrence Malick feel to it in my opinion; it is a visual tone poem much like Malick movies eg Days of Heaven where there is little dialogue. 2001: A Space Odyssey has barely 40 minutes of dialogue in a 145-minute film.
Regarding the plot, we move across centuries, from the birth of man with apes fighting it out to sociopathic Computer Hal taking a crew to Jupiter in a quest to understand a mysterious black monolith that may hold the key to God. Phew.
It also follows the adventures of a few astronauts in space and their motivations to mature and reflect on ... Read More:

This is not just a movie. This is a mind-altering experience. I saw 2001 as a fifteen year old when it was re-released in the winter of '76 and I remember leaving the theater not quite sure what to think of it but convinced it would have a tremendous impact on my life. And, indeed, as with the reappearing monolith, each time I watch the film (unfortunately, not in the spacious, magical dark of the theater - why don't they show it there at least once a year?), I discover yet another aspect of its deep content. Kubrick takes you on a journey that leaves you entranced; a slow, Zen-like, visually stunning trip through a timeless universe where man gets a glimpse of his true objective. A hopeful message. From 1976 on I dreamed of the year 2001, hoping ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this. Everything makes sense and the ending is really dramatic, much more so than 2001's imo, which just left me confused and thinking: thank god for that. Acting is also good throughout.

Black Christmas was released in 1974, making it the first slasher flick and while the film must have been scary for its day, it hasn't aged well at all and this unfortunatly makes the film boring for modern horror audiences. There is no gore, you don't see the killer, the deaths are pretty lame and most of the film is girls sitting around talking about crap. If you want a gorey film, avoid this and watch the remake but if you prefer a suspenseful film, there are worse choices out there than Black Christmas.

"Do you know what this is?" asks the cook at the Little People's Garden School as she ladles a white liquid into bowl after bowl.
"Why, it looks like junket," says Ann Lake, who arrived minutes before to deliver her little girl, Bunny, to the nursery school.
"It not only looks like junket, it is junket...junket is junket. And no matter what you do with it, it still tastes like swill and swallows like slime."
This exchange is one of the many pleasures of Otto Preminger's Bunny Lake Is Missing...a movie made up of a collection of eccentric and creepy performances, dialogue by John and Penelope Mortimer which is unexpectedly witty, an atmosphere of foreboding and dread, photography that keeps us in the mood for the worst to happen, and a steady performance ... I have often wondered why there are so many bad horror movies these days. Movies that instead of focusing on suspense and real chills, just pour endless amounts of blood in your face, thinking this will do the trick, and hopefully become a cult classic. Film after film, more and more horror movies are becoming increasingly similar, and you can almost guess the whole entire plot of the movie, no more than 10 minutes into the film. Everything in horror these days is all about over the top special effects, numbingly loud thumping music, that is supposed to get you scared. Black Christmas (the original) is (IMO) one of the best and scariest horror movies ever made. Why? you ask. Let me tell you. There are so many reasons. First. In horror today, when someone (usually the pretty girl) is walking ... Read More:

I am a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn, and so, I was only looking to enjoy this when I first saw it advertised on television. I had not read or heard any of the reviews, and I am glad I hadn't, because it meant that I could watch this movie with a totally open mind and heart. Nothng in life is perfect, not even Audrey, so I do not see why so many critics panned this adaptation of her life. This made-for-TV movie doesn't claim to be what it isn't. It doesn't aim to be ground breaking - it's a sweet, sensative portrayal of one of the best loved icons of all time. Who would have been perfect enough to play Audrey ??? Answer: No body really. I don't actually think that anybody could have done it better then Jennifer Love Hewitt. She has a really good go at a challenging role and pulls it off beautifully. ... Read More:
