I grew up watching only a few films and the Hunchback of Notre Dame was one of them.
I used to get my mam to rent it from the local video shop over and over again, and in the end the owner just ended up giving us the video.
Sadly, since my VHS player stopped working last year, i have had to convert all my videos onto DVD, which is a pain and costs money.
I think the Hunnchback of Notre Dame is an amazing story! Especially for children and especially for those growing up in the world today. I believe, and know, the moto to the story is dont be afraid of who you are, be proud. And since there's a lot of people today that are afraid to be themselves. I think this story is s good lesson!
The film has an amazing storyline..okay ... Read More:

How can I communicate the aberration that this represents?
I hope that a number of you will be repelled simply to hear that the roles of Hermia and Helena are taken (and then forgotten about) by those mascots of "Pretty but Pointless", Calista Flockhart and Anna Friel. Calista Flockhart rides a Penny Farthing bicycle and blows the tumbling tendrils of hair off her forehead regularly - but it gets worse, even when the talent gets more accomplished.
Stanley Tucci would get laughed off a senior school stage for the way that he tries to invest Puck with thoughtfulness and fun: Jimmie Krankee would have done a better job. Rupert Everett's Oberon is reminescent of a Studio 54 Go-Go dancer murmuring something he has a distant memory of, and Kevin Kline's gurning Bottom ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this film. Like a good French meal, the flavours build up in subtle beguiling layers. Great setting of Paris and an irresistible combination of sexy, French, laid back hero and uptight, American heroine. This combo has been done before in Green Card, but the plot here is completely different and has a fresh feel to it. The friction between the characters unfolds beautifully into a frisson and then passion thru the conduit of the accidental kiss. Having already heard the characters respective opinions on kissing, this is quite enchanting.
Initially, we come to know Kate's (Meg Ryan) story in a light comical fashion. We are then taken thru a train journey into Luc's (a very convincing Kevin Kline) story. This is a sensual delight. A feast first for the ... Read More:

This is one of Kevin Klines funniest roles playing the ordinary Joe Dave Kovic who has the appearance that resembles the president. When the president suffers from a severe stroke the government wants Dave to fill in for the president while he is out. When Dave takes on the role of the president and and has to take on the life that the president left behind for him like the first lady played by Sigourney Weaver who hated him. Dave needs to take on his relationship with the first lady, his advisor's played by Frank Langella and Kevin Dunn (the only people who know who Dave really is) ,and the country. Memorable Kline film in a brilliant double role.

Kenneth Branagh's film of As You Like It received a pretty cool critical reception as I remember. Amazon reviewers don't appear to be overwhelmed either. I came to it with low expectations but enjoyed it far more than I ever hoped I would.
Yes - the 19th century Japanese setting is a bit of a problem. It is hardy what one expects to encounter in this play. The (Sumo) wrestling scene is frankly comical - I don't think Shakespeare intended us laugh hysterically at this point! More worryingly, Branagh tries to carry the Japanese setting over into the Forest of Arden. The main problem is that this is one of Shakespeare's most English plays. There are more songs in this play than in any other he wrote, though few of them make it into the film. We only get one verse ... Read More:

An awesome soundtrack that served it's unique inspiration on many levels. I made love to my first girlfriend to this ebullient South African anthem. There is a moment when the choir raises the skies with, Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika ("Lord bless Africa")Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo ("May her spirit rise high up ")Yizwa imithandazo yethu. ("Hear thou our prayers ")Nkosi sikelela Thina lusapho lwayo. ("Lord bless us, Your people."). Unfortunately, the album does not date very well, and there are many others and better on the theme, but this is still special and truly a work of genius. Ironically, the film itself does not do the soundtrack honest justice

I fell into the trap after buying this of thinking it gay propaganda thus ignoring the pleasure of watching a warm, fun film for nearly 18 months. Don't make the same mistake. The majority of films are meant to be entertainment first otherwise we wouldn't bother with them.
The behaviour of the class after Cameron's decalration at the Oscars to ther teacher (Kevin Kline) is fairly good and Kline's attempt to deny what he is classic in the body language. Bob Newhart as the headteacher is perfect hesitant and clearly somewhat homophobic boss. The highs and lows of the emotional turmoil mixed with some great comic moments works well. Tom Selleck as the reporter is a gem, especially when he forces a kiss on Kline and tells him he is out. The ending is very sickly ... Read More:

You won't be at all suprised to find that this film is very different from the originals. For sure it's more family orientated and there's no Sellers, but even still, it is a good all rounder.
There are plenty of laughs and the film is much better than all of the Pink Panther remakes and spins offs since Sellers untimely death.
The DVD also includes many extras including deleted scenes and featurettes.
There is plenty in this film for die hard fans and people new to the series. The whole family will enjoy!

I had high expectations of this - not least because of the somewhat over enthusiastic reviews here.
I was very dissapointed. It seemed totally insincere from the outset, and though I bared it until the end - I was wishing for the end to come sooner!
I did like the fact that the makers were trying to do something different. And that in a way is admirable. But it was done at a pace that was so slow - I'd have preferred to be watching my washing dry.
It's a real shame it didn't work. I can't really reccommend this film at all. And even if you are a lover of Porter's songs - as I think I'm amoung many who are - it is not enough to make you 'love' this film.
