I'm 19 now (so was only 9 when '10 Things I Hate About You' came out) and I have seen this film way too many times to count. There have been countless sleep-overs, film days, random get-togthers and quite evenings alone that have all featured this film, so much so that I can now pretty much recite the entire script off by heart. Yet it is a mark of just how great this film is that, despite knowing it inside out I can still sit down and watch it and thoroughly enjoy doing so - it is and always will remain one of my favourite films.

When I was younger I never questioned anything in the films I watched - it is only as I have grown up that I have learnt to be critical of films, books and music, and even now, I can't fault any of the acting ... Read More:

"8 Mile" is Eminem's very own Purple Rain.

Such comparisons may very well be lazy. But more than that, they're true.

Take an urban kid living in trailer park squalor. Give him dreams of music and an ability beyond his intelligence. And a spirit-crushing job. All you need to do is give him a child-beating father and you've got Purple Rain.

But it's much better than that. Gone are the fancy flourishes of 80's rock flicks. Gone are the wild concert sequences and the embarrassing hair styles. What you've got is a film that reflects the bored, hopeless existence of trailer park America in a way as compelling as anything since the nihilistic Kids.

"8 Miles" isn't anything even vaguely glam, despite its world of ... Read More:

I come back to this film again and again. There is nothing too original about it, but it is all well written, well observed and well acted.

Whoopi Goldberg plays Corrina, the housekeeper who makes a huge difference to a widower and his young daughter. Her comic talent is used to great effect. It's a rare romantic lead for Ray Liotta. He is better known as a gangster in films like 'Goodfellows', but this one proves he is a versatile actor. The daughter played by Tina Majorino, will move the meanest heart.

Set in the late 1950s, the contemporary pop and maybe older jazz songs used for the soundtrack set the mood and certainly enhance my enjoyment.

The interracial love thing still seems more of a taboo in America than it is here. ... Read More:

DVD : Carry On Columbus (DVD) [1992]

Carry On Columbus (DVD) [1992]

starring: Leslie Phillips, Jon Pertwee, Richard Wilson, Keith Allen, Nigel Planer
directed by: Gerald Thomas
January 08, 2007

The only carry on that really does not work...why?

Well for a start most of the cast had passed away, leaving Jim Dale with a bunch of newbies who were not brought up in old school comedy.

Like most other tv / film updates, the film completely fails to capture the era and essence of the carry on film.

A complete disaster, buy Carry on Dick instead.

HOW can a joke, which if practiced and lived, would put you behind bars or on the electric chair easily, survive that long? It is truly frightening to hear some comic veterans and loveable charactes talk about atrocities, incest, rape, murder and god-knows-what horrors else. HOW can a sane mind invent insane stuff like this? Are they really so far out of their minds that they have imaginations this wild and absurd? This "joke" is an insult to all jokes. It is not funny, never was an never will be to a broader audience. It will always stay in it's niche. Only sick and twisted people can tell this joke. Even sicker people will laugh about it. Let's hope that god has mercy!

"Dream Lover", what a great and suggestive title!

I watched this film with my friend Radiant Raphael. He is a great fan of Madchen Amick (the A of Madchen has an umlaut on it; the name is German for "girl"), whom he describes as "voluptuous". I was amazed that Amick's character, Lena, is able to have sex without removing her pearl necklace. Surely that must be uncomfortable? Or is that the point?

I am also amazed that James Spader (Ray) can even make pushing a supermarket trolley seem sexy. I do, however, have a quibble with the hair department. The gel was a terrible idea. After "Mannequin" and "Bad Influence", Spader should have had a clause inserted in all his contracts saying, "Will not wear hair gel unless playing a geek", alongside his ... Read More:

OK, let me start out by saying that this is one of my favorite movies; it's a nice combination of romance and action. I like Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner as a couple, finding them to be a lot of fun. The action is very good, and the scene where Dennis Quaid beats up a bad guy with a baby in one hand and a stroller in the other is great! Yep, this is an excellent movie, one of my all-time favorites!

By the way, as far as family viewing is concerned, this is a very family-friendly movie. The violence is limited, with is no blood to be seen, and no nudity. I love this movie, and so does my family (especially my fourteen-year-old daughter!). We highly recommend this movie!

DVD : Jerry Seinfeld Live on Broadway: I'm Telling You for the Last Time [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

Jerry Seinfeld Live on Broadway: I'm Telling You for the Last Time [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Barryte, Grace Bustos, George Carlin, Alan King
directed by: Marty Callner
September 28, 1999

This is a fantastic recording of one of America's best comics. Jerry proves that you don't need bad language to be funny. The style is much mocked now especially by comedians like Patton Oswalt and TV shows like Family Guy but you have to see this master at work. The Seinfeld style has influenced people like Peter Kay, Jim Gaffigan and Mike Birbiglia.

Watch this, you can't not like it!

Also watch Seinfeld in 'Comedian' it is excellent for anyone interested in stand up.
