Pacing is completely screwed with nothing interesting happening until halfway through the 11 episodes. Dull new characters in Maya (with her ridiculous ability), Alejandro (who ends up being totally pointless) and Monica. Plot is a rehash of the first series but done in half the time and with no character building or any of the mystery of series 1.
Worth watching for episodes 8 and 9 (Four Months Ago & Cautionary Tales) only.
The rest is boring and messy especially the appalling trash of 'Powerless' with Peter acting even more airheaded than I previously thought was possible and Nathan showing up and saving the day by saying the magic words "I love you" before deciding to organise a spur of the moment press conference and give ... House, can only be described as brilliant. Not in the way as a teenager would describe it in the way of being cool or just generally entertaining, but brilliant as in genius. I could talk about season one for hours as it's truly the season that defines the character and sets in stone Hugh Laurie's cracking of America. Hugh Laurie, for those who don't know is a famous British comic actor best known for his work with Stephen Fry. Such shows as Jeeves & Wooster, A Bit of Fry & Laurie & Blackadder made this man a true comic god. Upon hearing that Hugh had taken up the role as the American Dr. Gregory House, I'm sure a lot of people took a big sigh and said to themselves "Oh, please god no." How wrong those people were when Laurie stepped onto the screen ... Read More:

After the triumphant debut of the first season of House, many people believed it couldn't be topped. How wrong they were. Season Two not only shut up all the skeptics, it slapped them for even being doubtful. Season Two not only had the absence of the annoying character of Vogler, it gave us a deeper insight into all the characters. At the end of Season One we were introduced to House's ex Stacy. During Season Two we're given a more complex look on their past and their true relationship. The Stacy/House episodes introduce to the fans a deeper complexity to House and we see a more genuine side, rather than the typically cynical House we're used to.

There is one episode which I found a bit too much and felt it was pushing to be controversial. I know it ... Read More:

I teach GCSE drama in a rough Saff London Comp and get the students hooked with Baz Lurhrmann's modern version of it and then to teach them more of what Shakespeare had in mind when he wrote the play, I show them this one by Zeffirelli - it works a treat. It is beautifully done, universal in its themes and appeal and the acting is rivitingly good - especially the very young and beautiful Olivia Hussy, though Michael York as a petulant Tybalt is equally good.

It was with a certain trepidation that I put this, my first blu-ray disk, into my new Panasonic blu-ray player. "2001: a space odyssey" has been my favourite film for as long as I can remember, and I've owned copies on a variety of VHS tapes and DVDs.

The theme is just about as epic as it's possible to imagine: the evolution of man from ape through human to a completely new life form. It's a film which has sharply polarised views, with some people completely mystified or even bored by the presentation, whilst others are spellbound and deeply moved. Unsurprisingly, I am in the second category, and still find myself surprised that Kubrick managed to get a major motion picture company to finance such a bold and imaginative film.

The presentation on blu-ray is beyond ... Read More:

Flicking through my recommendations on Amazon today I came across this. Well I bought it when it first came out on DVD so thought I would add my voice to those other reviews about the quality. I won't say to much about the film. For me it was very, very enjoyable. Well acted (a pleasure to see so many British stars mixed with those from across the pond), well directed (the scene where Beatrice and Benedict are 'captured' by the trap is superb), with good music and wonderful scenery.

Such a shame then that the DVD is so sloppily put together. In Mono only! No scene selection. No 'making of'. No directors' comments. Surely the time has come for a new edition?

I have most of Kenneth Branagh's work and enjoyed immensely his comments on 'Loves Labours Lost' and would ... Read More:

1976 was a funny electoral year. One year after the full defeat in Vietnam and the evacuation of Saigon on the run. Two years after the resignation of Nixon, to avoid an impeachment that would have led to the very first conviction of the President. 1976 was the year when all had to changed, and nothing really changed because the establishment just looked for a way to save face and restore the everyday standard imperialistic power, and of course that will fail with Jimmy Carter, but Scorsese could not know it though everyone knew that success would be a miracle. What's more, success in that line was doomed in the long run. It was not yet possible to know what was going to happen in China, but we could know it was going to change, even if it was quite clear that the Soviet Union was not going to change ... Read More:

This slow, boring at times, movie is a classic. It gets played on my dvd player during bouts of insomnia or drunkeness or when i smokeweed. It has a Terrence Malick feel to it in my opinion; it is a visual tone poem much like Malick movies eg Days of Heaven where there is little dialogue. 2001: A Space Odyssey has barely 40 minutes of dialogue in a 145-minute film.

Regarding the plot, we move across centuries, from the birth of man with apes fighting it out to sociopathic Computer Hal taking a crew to Jupiter in a quest to understand a mysterious black monolith that may hold the key to God. Phew.

It also follows the adventures of a few astronauts in space and their motivations to mature and reflect on the situation in which they find themselves. The anti-hero is the malfunctioning ... Read More:

The programme material is fine... my issue is with the packaging. There are 4 episodes each on discs 1 & 2, 2 episodes on disc 3, and 1 episode on disc 4..!
Plenty of room to spread the 11 episodes across 3 discs - at a cheaper price.
