If you are British you must see this film. If you are young you must see this film. If you once were young you must see this film again. Unlike the rest of us Travis never got old, never lost his certainty, never compromised. Lyndsay Anderson, thank you for this film. I saw it first when I was 17. I can find no flaw at the age of 50. It is deeply observant, fiercely subversive and as relevant now in 2008 as it was in 68. Look at it and see 2 decades of movie moments that this film inspired. Seminal is the critical description and it is true. See with Kes and it's like an ultrasound photo of modern Britain. An important film from when they made important films.

I was positively surprised when I watched DOOMSDAY, expecting a carbon copy of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK / L.A. & MAD MAX.
Then I noticed two things. Rhona Mitra's Sinclair makes Snake Plissken look like a whimp by comparison, and DOOMSDAY is a fantastic film featuring an excellent cast including Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell.
Yes, it copies pretty much of the theme from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (even the musical score reminded me of it), it also copies parts of 28 DAYS LATER and large portions of MAD MAX 2. But so what? It does maintain its own style and it's a fun to watch movie, so much fun I can give it 5 stars without regretting it. Glad I bought it.

It's a film which could only have happened in the 1970's; Bob Guccione, owner of Penthouse magazine and flush with wealth after riding the sexual license of the preceding decade set out to remake himself into an artist. He certainly succeeded in creating a film which maintains a reputation thirty years on (and how many do that?), but what reputation? And did he create art? Not a chance.
On paper, Caligula has a lot going for it; the sets and visual design are sumptuous and must have cost a fortune and the casting is a list of a-class thesps including John Gielgud, Maccolm MacDowell and Peter O'Toole. The only thing that lets it down is that it really isn't a very good film. Guccione brought everything he'd learned from making porn movies to a ... Read More:

I admit first hearing about this i remember thinking that it was an X-Men Rip-off.
I'm So Glad that i finally realised that this isn't anything like X-Men.
First off - No Silly & Easily Noticable Costumes (with a huge H or the Helix Sign splattered on them) so they are ordinary people with extraordinary gifts.
Also Quite Possibly it has a Villain scarier than Darth Vader: Sylar.
the Villain remains as a thorn in the Heroes' Side throughout the First and Second Seasons and then takes his place as the lead Villian in Season 3.
I Must Say in closing that put these story's down into several 2-3 Hour Movies and these will be better than the three X-Men Films put together.
I was half way through watching a clockwork orange when i couldnt help but think what is all the fuss about??. Yes it may be shocking but that is all it is. Some times people for some reason regard controversial films as masterpieces when in trueth they are average. A good performance from the lead but the storyline is patchy and doesnt flow well. The film realise on shocking rape scenes to make up for the awful storyline, maybe a sign of poor filmmaking but thats being way way to critical
The only reason i have given "A clockwork orange" 4 stars is because of Kubricks other work such as Full metal jacket and the shining and the fact he is no longer with us influenced my desicion. For this film alone i wouldnt go further than 2 stars just for ... Read More:

Towards the end of the excellent commentary on the second DVD, Alan Price mentions that people who see this film in their early adulthood often say it fundementally changed their outlook on life - I have to agree because, well, I was that soldier. This film is a truely remarkable piece of work and somehow manages to rise completly above it's seventies origins and seem even more relevant more than 30 years on. Disturbingly the film's exaggerated and satirically ruthless businessmen and government officials, complete with dirty arms deals etc, who use Travis throughout the film now seem entirely plausible. The only small disappointment is that despite the lengthy running time the film is still missing a few minutes halfway through, a scene where Travis stays the night at Sir ... Read More:

It's hard to believe in this age of successful dark comedy, from 'The Office' and 'Extras' to 'Brasseye' and 'The League of Gentlemen', how shocking this film was to reviewers at the time, simply by being pitch-black in its humour. Even recently, I heard some berk of a film critic say that it wasn't a patch on its predecessors, 'If...' and 'O Lucky Man'. Nonsense! It is easily the equal of 'If...' and rather superior to 'O Lucky Man', which, in my view, is way too long and rather uneven. Director Lindsay Anderson was understandably upset by Britannia Hospital's critical mauling, but its targets, from pompous royalists to selfish union leaders, from power-crazed professors to lazy, rule-bound porters are expertly brought down. Cynical coke-fuelled journalists, hospital administrators ... Read More:

I love Heroes and having recently got a Blu Ray player, waited patiently for this to come out.
Ther series itself is fantastic. Some people didn't like Season 2. I agree it wasn't as good as Season 1 but I enjoyed it nonetheless. At least it tried to be different and some cool new characters were introduced.
Picture quality is good but not fantastic. There is an immense amount of detail but sometimes there is too much. I was particularly distracted by the Scenes with Niki as you can clearly see her make up.
Sound is average (poor for DTS HD). All dialogue comes from the centre speaker and although other sounds use all speakers as required, I was just as happy listening in Stereo.
This film seems to be one that people love or hate? Generally I dislike remakes as pointless exercises that are pale imitations of the (often better) originals e.g. The Grudge, Assault On Precinct 13, Gone In 60 Seconds. However if they add something to the original they can be worthwhile.
The original Halloween is an absolute classic horror film and the grandfather of the slasher genre. What Rob Zombie does with his version is to give us an insight into Michael Myers, that is absent in the original. The therapeutic relationship between Dr Loomis and Michael is emphasised and the obsession with masks that facilitates his withdrawal from reality. This relationship doesn't cloud Lumis' perception of Myers; he knows that he is evil incarnate, but he has an understanding of him.
