I watched this film as a child, then as an adult, and it always amazes me. Another truly heart warming Christmas film! Richard Attenborough portrays a wonderful Santa Claus, with his remarkable acting skills! It does not matter what age you are with this movie, old or young, it will warm your heart at Christmas time, with a few laughs along the way.

Matilda - Special Edition [1996]

directed by: Danny DeVito

Film review of Matilda (1996)
Star rating-\\\gg

Matilda was originally written as a children¡¦s novel by Roald Dahl (tales of the unexpected) in 1988. His wry wit and humour certainly makes the book an enjoyable read and this humour still shows in Danny DeVito¡¦s movie version of the novel with a contrast of both American and English actors.

The film is about a young girl called Matilda played wonderfully by Mara Wilson (Miss Doubtfire). Though at the time, Wilson was fairly new to the acting scene; her acting skills still comes across as charming.

Another great actor in the film is the director, Danny DeVito (Mars Attacks), who also plays both the narrator and Matilda¡¦s father. DeVito is both clever ... Read More:

Have to say I completely disagree with some of the unfairly negative comments posted here in the other review on this film. For those thinking this movie amounts to another Hollywood assassination of a great TV series, have no fear, it actually works surprisingly well. Mixing the model animation of the original Thomas characters with live actors was always going to be a risky venture but to the credit of both the film-makers and the cast involved the whole thing comes across as enjoyable and genuinely engaging. Alec Baldwin does a particularly good job as 'the conductor' (literally another universe away from his roles in 'Malice' and 'The Juror' for sure!) whilst Peter Fonda also deserves credit for his performance (again, a long long way from Easy Rider). After throwing a secret party for his son Chris's 12th birthday , Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) lands himself in hot water with his wife Miranda (Sally Field) and she demands a divorce.

When Miranda wants to hire a housekeeper to look after the children, Daniel is outraged that Miranda would rather let a stranger look after the children than him so with a little help from his make-up artist brother, Daniel turns up to an interview as Mrs Doubtfire, a british nanny who has 15 years experience under her belt and is hired on the spot.

Mrs Doubtfire is a fantastic family film that is funny, sad and touching all at the same time.
