Flint Street Nativity - a God send! I am delighted to see this on sale, I have just bought it having had it taped on video since it appeared on TV years ago, and like the other reviewer, when I came to dig it out for its annual airing, I couldn't find it - shock horror! Everyone actor in this is superb, however, Frank Skinner's portrayal of Herod is both inspired and hilarious, I laughed so hard. There are many funny one liners that can go over a child's head but certainly don't miss an adults. Fantastic viewing for everyone.

I'd heard the hype but only watched the film as my wife wanted to see it.There is a lot of bad language in it but that is the make up of the characters in the film. The film reflects the steel industry failing in the UK and the impact it has on the workers losing their jobs.Far from being depressing,as you may expect,it handles the issues with classic comedy and genuine humour. It runs for almost 90 mins, grabs your attention from the first minute and keeps you laughing all the way through with only the odd short-lived serious moment.Don't let the swearing put you off,i was quite happy to let my 16 year old daughter watch and enjoy the film.It is the humour that stays with you.Recommended.

When Frank Capra directed It's a Wonderful Life a classic was made and whilst Jack Frost may not be anywhere near to this standard a 3rd generation Capra directs a very enjoyable Christmas fare.Michael Keaton and Kelly Preston shine in this warm hearted tale about young boy whose father is too occupied with hitting the big time rock and roll stage rather than spend time with his kid. However this all changes when the film takes a rather unusual twist(if not totally unbelievable). Nevertheless, the storyline has a warm Dickens type feel good factor and an underlying message for ignoring father's.Michael Keaton is polished in his role as the father of Charlie and Kelly Preston shines as his mother in a spoof snowman tale that is bound to go down well with the kids ... The recipe for this is nothing special, and I must agree with some of the harsher reviews about the stock characters and lack of innovation. However, a lot of it is very funny. I would give 4.5 stars to Series 1, and significantly fewer to Series 2, but all in all I enjoyed it very much.

I can always remember watching this series on tv first time round and being totaly gripped every week.
It was the highlight of the week.
Now that all 3 series are in one box set i can't wait for mine to arrive tomorrow
I can't remember much about the third series 'gold' but the first 2 are great.
The second being crazy compaired with the 1st.
Great acting from all 5 main women in this and the stepping stone for samantha morton to greater things.(well not greater maybe bigger)

I don't know why i bought this. Maybe because I was having an emotional Heath Ledger tribute which involved purchasing a load of his films. I'm sorry to say this was a really dire film. The plot although i'd originally thought of it as looking fantastic, was really bad!! Really bad. Sorry Heath, but everyone makes a couple of dud films, even you.

I rented this and have to say that I was disappointed by the visual quality of the film on Blu Ray. I do not actually think it was any better than the DVD (which I own) except marginally. For perhaps a couple of scenes the picture quality was good and clearly HD.
I have to disagree with the other reviewer who says that the picture quality is outstanding, it is not at all. Plenty of grain and not a sharp picture.
As for the sound, either 5.1 or PCM uncompressed. As my amplifier does not have an HDMI slot I cannot use PCM uncompressed sound and so cannot comment on that. the 5.1 sound was ok but again no better than the DVD.
The film itself is great, which is why I own it on DVD and why I rented it on Blu Ray. I was very disappointed with the Blu ... Read More:

Like so many others - (as the number of second hand copies at 40 pence indicated) - I was mortified when I watched this film for the first time. The original is one of my favorite films of all time - so this really was on a hiding to nothing. I put the DVD away and didnt watch it again for a long time. The second time I viewed it sometime much later, I was more open to fairly rate it as an okay film based loosely on HG wells novel. Don't forget the 1960 version isnt exactly the same as the novel. The special effects are better, more of a plot prior to his time travelling, samantha mumba looks good and there is more action. Bad points are cheesy acting from many of the supporting cast and the pitiful extra role for alan young (the original philby). Both versions of the film rapidly progress ... Read More:

worth the effort, held up by a strong supporting cast, great photography, but mostly by Michael Sheen who is as usual brilliant, this is a gentle quirky very British film, which made me smile.
