Looks good, promising idea, great reviews, but in the end this is just a plain story told approximately backwards. Typical of most modern films, method and gloss triumph over substance.

The moral behind this? If you have a severe memory defficiency, leave the detective work to others.

Not in the same league of the classics such as Jacob's Ladder or A Matter of Life and Death, not even close to Donnie Darko!

To be honest, I found this film rather dull. The characters are completely one-dimensional and the story is pretty uninteresting and heavily reminiscent of Night of the Living Dead, Assault on Precinct 13, Dawn of the Dead, etc.. In fact, I'm only giving it 3 points because I love vampires and vampire movies so much. The problem with disposable characters is that you just don't care whether or not they live or die, thus there's no tension when they go an do something really moronic that puts them in imminent danger (there's a fair bit of that in this film). I didn't like the ending much: it seemed a bit of a cop-out, but I won't spoil it for you.

I like to end a review on a positive note if possible, and this film has some really good ... Read More:

Isolated in the most northern town of Alaska, the towns folk are preparing for the month ahead. Their position on the earth means that every year it is darkness for thirty days. A stranger has just come ashore and makes his way towards the town...
The film is wonderfully set up with good characters on a convenient white canvas of snow. There is one particularly memorable tracking shot in the midst of the action that is very impressive indeed. Once the action begins it does not let up. Eerie, scary and bloody - I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys horror or simply likes a bit of blood and a few scares. I give it 4/5 because the film maker in my head would have done it slightly differently.

I bought this because of existing reviews. It starts well, a few surprises, tense and taught. The story holds up. The leads play well off each other. It kept my attention for about the first 75 minutes...but then the ending feels rushed and chaotic which was shame because up until then it was very good. I have given it four stars but really i would give it 3.5.

DVD : Batman Begins - 2 Disc Edition [2005]

Batman Begins - 2 Disc Edition [2005]

starring: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes
directed by: Christopher Nolan
October 21, 2005

This Batman film just shows that the who idea still works. Quite frankly, after the Michael Keaton/Val Kilmer/George Clooney efforts I was beginning to have my doubts.

Sure, there are one or two places where this film may be a bit slow, but on the whole I think that even those patches serve the purpose of explaining how Batman became Batman ... i.e. why the Bat bit. As always the gadgets are brilliant, the one liners excellently delivered and Batman's escapes truly unbelievable - in other words a proper Batman film!

Christian Bale is excellent as Batman, and Michael Caine just about perfect in the role as Alfred the butler - in fact, when I win the lottery and have to hire my own butler Michael Caine will be top of my list of candidates!! ... Read More:

This is a film worth watching. It can be classed in the thriller/scifi genre and will entertain anyone with an interest in twisting plot lines.

Michael Douglas stars as an investment banker. His brother, Sean Penn, shows up on his birthday and offers him a rather strange present. The story proceeds from there.

The film is defective in two principal ways. Firstly, the plot itself relies upon a number of totally implausible elements which harm the integrity of the story. And secondly, the film's supporting cast (Penn included) suffer from the fact that the director underdevelops (and in my opinion undervalues) their role in the storyline. Even Douglas' character is not explored in any depth: the viewer's impression of him is always somewhat two dimensional. ... Read More:

This film drags and the plot isn't very good. There are some good moments, but for the large part I thought this was very average.

I loved this film when it came out. My girlfriend who I took with me was not so keen. She hated it. I think this was more down to her aversion to horror films than a dislike for this one in particular.
The plot such as it was had many holes. Firstly the hasty and inadequate explanation as to why nobody could use their mobile phone to summon help, was laughable. The camera zooms in on a small pile of about ten cremated mobiles. And "a bit young to be a sheriff" Josh Hartnett mumbles in true Scooby Doo fashion something about pesky kids. Nobody even thought to just drive out of town after all eighty miles aint that far. Brilliant. The vampires speaking in some sort of bizarre east european language are trully grotesque. The opening scene when their ship arrives is visually stunning. If you ... Read More:

I'm a big fan of John Carpenter's films and was left slightly disappointed with Vampires. I think because of the idea of Carpenter doing a Vampire film got e so excited that when it turned out to be an average movie I couldn't help but feel slightly let down.

Things start well. James Woods heads a vampire hunting team who track down nests of Vampires and kill them off along with the master vampire. The opening scenes of such a kill are really cool. Thrown into the mix is the fact that a priest accompanies them on these hunts. It turns out that he catholic church help fund such vampire hunting units. A great start to the film.

However, it's a bit downhill after the first 20-30 minutes and goes from a potentially classic film to an average vampire movie. If you are a ... Read More:
