I just want to provide a bit of information that is missing from the product listing, which is of great interest to many people. That is, has the transfer of the Theatrical Editions been improved over the insult that was released last time? And the answer is a plain and simple "no". The Special Edition is the same fantastic transfer as we've had before (albeit with the same bizarre discolouration problems) and the Original Theatrical Editions are still not anamorphic. Why? Well, we all have our suspicions about that.

This review is based on watching the "original theatrical version" (1977) which is on the Bonus Disc in this 2 Disc DVD.
There is stellar charm from C3PO, R2D2, Princess Leia, Skywalker, and Hans Solo. The pace of the film is also very good. The audience follows the story much through the eyes of narrators C3PO and R2D2. That, ladies and gentleman, is why this film is pretty innovative. 'The Empire Strikes Back', the second of the "old" Star Wars releases, is likely to be the darker of the collection, yet at the same time, the most accomplished in terms events. Their are many well shot scenes that are so cleverly edited, and the early fight scene on the snow planet between the rebels and the empire is superbly shot.
It's only my opinion though, but I've always felt the ending shot of this film is incredibly weak. Not longer after Darth Vader has confessed his relationship with Luke, we're still in alot of tension and the atmosphere is quite mellow, yet in a matter of minutes, all this is turned around so we can have a shot of Luke, Leia, and the droids gazing out of their cruisers window with a big smile on their face, just to ... I watched this for the first time in a friends house on an ancient Beta video player in 1985. I enjoyed it and having watched it again recently for the first time in an attempt to understand why alot of grown men love Star Wars i was disappointed and mystified.
Is it any good? No. R O T J was the Star Wars film which thrilled me most as a child. I loved the ewoks, though now I find them to be a bit irritating and pointless in terms of plot. I loved the scenes in Jabba's palace, though now I think the use of Jim Henson's Creature Workshop was a bit over the top. I loved and still love the fast paced action sequences and the climactic lightsaber duel at the end. All this to say I don't think Return Of The Jedi is worth watching ... Read More: >>More Details |

Lets face it none of us are critics so if you like still game at all the youve got to get this... and the others.....and the christmas specials... in fact if these guys dont make another series i just dont know what i'll do..... i know its psycho patter. :) Have resorted to watching dear green place now which, dont get me wrong, is very good just different. You cant beat still game its a must have dvd collection, too cheap if you ask me.

I have to agree with the other two recent reviews which found this movie less than entertaining. I fell asleep twice watching this - it's technically very good, yes, but entertaining? Certainly not. Give it a miss.

Being English I only came across this comedy late one night. but having watched one episode I was unable to find it again on the television, so I opted to buy the box set and I was not disappointed. all the main characters are worthy of a place in any comedy. worth every penny.

the newly restored print is just sparkling as is hayworth as gilda in one of the most fascinating female portrayals of all times ,
the noir story is similar to both CASABLANCA &NOTORIOUS ,but thanks to the electrifying chemistry between rita and glenn ford as the american sailor in buenos aires involved in gambling racket and illegal cartels,the love affair becomes fascinating to watch, the dialogue is so good to be called great at times like the quote ,i hate you so much it is almost exciting , add to it the moody ,atmosphere with great B&W photography and the magical noir will just whisk you away with it's force of a cinematic typhoon. the director has staged some great songs and dances with rita lipsynching to anita ellis and the song -blame it on ... Poor storline, poor sound, poor acting and dreadfully cheap looking sets and that is without having to put up with "hammy acting". It is sad that millivres think that this is an acceptable type and quality of dvd. The gay community deserves better. NOt remotely worth the money. My advice...give this dvd a miss.
