This film was canned by Mark Komode on Radio Five Live when it was released as possibly the worst film of the year. He says that about Pirates of the Carribean and low and behold a common theme is that Mackenzie Crook is in both!!!. I generally heed what Professor Komode says and I had no desire to see this film, until I came across it whilst channel hopping Sky Movies. What a delight and great late night entertainment however!!

I never really liked the Carry on type of films and found the innuendo pointless. This film has no innuendo it leaves nothing to the imagination and it is really a lads film. Saying that my wife laughed as much as I did.

The film follows the pranks and day to day activities of a number ... Read More:

DVD : The Thin Blue Line: Complete BBC Series 1 & 2 [1995]

The Thin Blue Line: Complete BBC Series 1 & 2 [1995]

starring: Rowan Atkinson, Mina Anwar, James Dreyfus, Serena Evans, David Haig
September 17, 2001

The recipe for this is nothing special, and I must agree with some of the harsher reviews about the stock characters and lack of innovation. However, a lot of it is very funny. I would give 4.5 stars to Series 1, and significantly fewer to Series 2, but all in all I enjoyed it very much.

Though the story line has been done so many times it's a great film. I'd seen this several times as a teenager and still think of it the same way. This movie really has less to do with Madonna and more to do with Rosanna Arquette.

It's hard to imagine anybody not coming across this film but if you haven't it starts out with Roseanna Arquette who plays Roberta Glass, a bored New Jersey housewife, who constantly follows the on-going relationship of Jim and Susan. One day, Roberta decides that she would really like to meet Susan, so she places an add in the paper, telling Susan to meet Roberta at Battery Park in New York City. Susan (played by Madonna) shows up, but is arrested because of cab fair. Roberta is being harassed by some lunatic. After a bump ... Read More:

DVD : Black Rainbow [1989] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

Black Rainbow [1989] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Rosanna Arquette, Jason Robards, Tom Hulce, Mark Joy, Ron Rosenthal
directed by: Mike Hodges
January 11, 2005

Saying that Black Rainbow is one of its director's best films doesn't sound much of a compliment when you're talking about a man whose résumé includes Morons From Outer Space and not one but two Clive Owen stinkers even if it is true. Mike Hodges' reputation these days rests solely on a gangster movie he made 35 years ago, and the fact that his subsequent efforts have either been too clinical to work (The Terminal Man), too flawed to completely satisfy (Pulp), outright awful (A Prayer for the Dying) or saw him fired early in production (Damien: Omen II) has done little to deter labelling him as a one-hit wonder. True to his run of luck, this neat little supernatural thriller was barely released, going straight to cable in the US and getting caught up in a distribution ... Read More:

If you want a complex storyline, oscar-winning performances, massive budget, big explosions, scantily-clad maidens, gratuitous violence and a cliff-hanger ending... do not watch this film.

If you want toilet humour, wry observation, fallible heroes, pop-culture references, puerile behaviour, a linear plot and a British film where the only bare flesh is being chewed by zombies... it doesn't sound all that good, does it? But it is. So buy it.
