I watched Silent Running knowing that it was not an action film based in space, and not expecting the special effects to be remarkable because of the decade it was made. In general, I felt it was OK but I found it hard to understand why it has become a cult classic. The exterior and interior of the spaceships were well done, except towards the beginning where we pan away from the window and go to a full view of the spaceship, maybe the lighting or depth of focus is out, but at that point it really looked like a model. The dialogue felt fairly flat, with certain issues (such as why he does not eat the processed food) being shoehorned into the conversations to give the viewer some background.
