I saw the whole short season of ITV Austen adaptations from which the three featured here were chosen and the main mystery to me is why it was that by far the the best of them - 'Persuasion', with Rupert Penry Jones and the excellent Sally Hawkins - was not included in this set.
This 'Mansfield Park' is especially poor, partly because Billie Piper - (a decent actress to be sure) is miscast. Even her looks, with her trademark bleached blonde hair and black eyebrows, are simply wrong for a lead Austen part.
For Mansfield Park, look for the greatly superior version starring Frances O' Connor as Fanny Price.

I was nervous about buying this after Revolver... thought he may have lost it. However I was pleasantly surprised by this film. OK, it's not up to Lock Stock or Snatch quality, but not far off. Usual Ritchie fair, east end villains, dodgy dealings with some comedy and lots of side plots that eventually all fit together, but this worked pretty well. OK, the ending is a bit unexplained, but that's because it's set for a follow up which I am not sure about, but all in all not a bad movie.

Firstly I must say that I adored this film when seeing it in the cinema.
I found it so evocative of time and place and I really felt transported by many of the scenes, back into the 70s.
I enjoyed the performances immensely. Jodhi May is, as always, sublime. I also loved all the little domestic moments around the kitchen tables in the Beach Houses' titular Flashbacks. Daniel Craig is such a versatile actor, his portrayal of a faded star here, who has everything materially and nothing spiritually is spot-on, he is rather underused in this film, unfortunately.
I came away from the cinema feeling different which is always a good thing in my book. I was truly entranced by the sensuality - as in, appealing ... Read More:

I had really looked forward to this movie on Blue Ray having seen the trailers. However, after 15 minutes t was obvious that this film
was bad - very bad! The locations in supposedly Eastern Europe were poor and the initial scenes were farcical. The dialogue was laughable and Vin Diesal was just plainly poor. The underlying religious theme was ridiculous and even Charlotte Rampling couldnt lift the credibility stakes. The second half of the movie ( set in New York) was marginally better than the first half but even this was illogical and mismatched. What could have been a good film turned out to be a mess!

Not quite as good as lock stock or snatch, which in my opinion get 5 stars a peice, rocknrolla however is definatly worth buying and i give it 4 stars. The sound track to this film is pretty good too.

I'm not an overly demanding movie buff. I watch all sorts, and in general I see the merits in even the poorest movies.
I have never felt so compelled to write a review about a movie as I am now.
I'm a Vin Diesel fan. Most of his movies are watchable, and some, such as Pitch Black, are excellent. He's the stereotypical tough guy in a leading role, but he can also act. It's quite novel, and usually means his movies are good fun.
With this in mind, I sat down to watch this movie, despite never having heard of it before.
To put it bluntly, this movie is rubbish.
Some of the ideas behind it are not too bad. The future society imagined as the backdrop for the movie is good. The special effects are not bad. But none of this ... Read More:

Garbage! The film was beset with many, many problems right from the word go and does not do the director any justice what so ever. The initial reviewer covers all the bases with the problems which helped cripple this picture although casting Vin Diesel didn't help either. The first 30 minutes of the film are probably the best thing about the film (apart from the end credits!) before the characters make their trek to America. The action scenes are sub-standard, the characters are one dimensional and rather bland. I also found the amount of animal cruelty rather distasteful (dead polar bears, hanging dogs etc) but that's a minor gripe compared to the bigger picture. Futuristic New York looks awful with bright neon lights everywhere and the whole thing has tv ... Read More:

This is simply an excellent adaptation of a great book. It captures the humour, the irony and subtlety of the book very well. Kate Beckinsale is exactly as I expected Emma to be, perhaps slightly nicer. The supporting cast are great, Prunella Scales in particular is fantastic. A difficult job very well done.

This film is a pamphlet and as such is an essential film in our consciousness of reality the way it may be in this globalized world. It shows how the West cannot win the war in which we have engage ourselves without even thinking it over twice. The war that must be stopped at once, and at once is already too late, that war against Islam, even if we pretend at times it is only against the Arabs because we don't want to know better, this war is lost, and was lost even before starting it, because it is not a war against terror at all , but a war against those who don't want to be westernized because we have been dumb enough to pretend that the American way of life was the future of the world, once again without even thinking it over twice. But what can we do in that ... Read More:
