Let's be honest, this is not a good movie. It does capture the spirit of the original and the neo-fascist future government allows for the usual Veehoeven humour BUT... clearly the budget was tiny and Van Dien, Blalock and Donohoe must have sucked up most of the cash and they must also really need the money. We had some gratuitous nudity, plenty of blood and guts and rolling heads. We had the usual TV newscast 'would you like to see/know/buy (lol !) more' but the animation was poor and the sub-plot of the Sky Marshall (also celebrity singer) being controlled by the bugs didn't really work. Right where to start, I have recently upgraded my home entertainment system, with a new TV and PS3 to go, so obviously I wanted to try out Blu-Ray, this was the First blu-ray movie I ever saw, and Im so glad a picked this movie to test Blu-Ray with, because I don't think I would of picked it for any other reason, because it has some really good special effect's and demonstrated the BR standard very well IMO. Anyway about the film, I loved it for all the wrong reasons, this is one hell of a cheesy sci-fi flick that does not even to attempt to disguise itself as something more, but as it is it makes for one hell of a good laugh to watch, Im sure if you wanted more you would hate this film, but if you ever wanted to sit and have a laugh ... Do you have Starship Troopers on DVD? Dont bother with this set. Do you have Starship Troopers 2 on DVD? Sell it. Do you have Starship Troopers 3 on DVD? May be worth getting the boxset so you have ST1. There. Done. OK, I watched this eventually. The first film is still the best and I finally replaced my old flipper DVD (remember those!?). The second film is just an excuse for a gore fest. Loads of cutting heads off and blood by the bucketload. It's a poor movie though and the end is just nonsense. I mean, lets have a think about what I would do...get in the ship and go home or die? Hmmm, tricky one. The first time i watched this movie was on a wet and rainy day curled upon the sofa suffering from a bad case of flu.I found it on some moviechannel on sky and enjoyed every minute of it. It's one of those filmsthat remind us just how we felt when we were kids. It has all thestereotypical characters, the kid with a strict dad who wants to send hisson to military camp, the fat kid who gets bullied, the nerd, the prissyrich kid and so on. The kids decide that they don't want to go the the summer camps that theirparents have chosen for them and with the help of Christopher Lloyd theytake over a deserted hippie commune and fool their parents into coughingup the cash for their venture.
