I love this film. It's in my top ten favourite films ever?

Why? Because it is full of drama. Because the script is among the finest ever written (it started life as a play). Because the acting is Top notch (Henry Fonda is absolutely 100% believable). Because the twists and turns of the emotions of the jurors is superb.

There are so few films made with such intelligent and succinct scripts - I love this film to bits and hold my hat off to all who were involved in its making. If you haven't seen it yet. Do so. You won't regret it.

All The President's Men (2 Disc Special Edition) [1976]Another one of my Dad's favorite movies. He was in college during the Watergate Scandal and followed it thoroughly. I saw the movie from his collection. The EXCELLENT FILM is based on the story of two reporters for the Washington Post, Carl Bernstein(Dustin Hoffman) and Robert Woodward(Robert Redford), who stumbled across a potential lead for a story that snow-balled, to their continued horror, to the incrimination of and forced resignation of President, Richard Nixon. Fed by the mysterious "Deep Throat", Bernstein and Woodward put their own pieces together, sold two and a half million copies of the Post and won a Pulitzer Prize. The script by William Goldman and based on Bernstein's and Woodward's ... Read More:

The movie was made as a period piece. There are great scenes of the express, landscapes, food and other items. The costumes are also very plush. Even though the movie is star studded the actors to not out shine the characters they play.

As usual Hercule is in earshot of many private conversations that will be used later to his sleuthing advantage once processed by his little gray cells. On the train Hercule (Albert Finney) is approached by an American business man who tries to heir him for protection. Hercule turns him down and the next morning the business man is dead.

This movie has everything that makes Agatha Christie movies great. Everyone is a suspect. Everybody could have done it. Only Hercule Poirot can figure this out. Naturally ... Read More:

DVD : St Elmo's Fire [1985]

St Elmo's Fire [1985]

starring: Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson
directed by: Joel Schumacher
June 14, 2004

This movie is considered as one of the famous 80s "Brat Pack" movies, since it featured some well-known actors and actresses of the 80s "Brat Pack", such as Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Emilio Estevez.
However, it is very different from their other movies, so it's wrong to think that if you liked the others, then you'll like St Elmo's Fire, too.
St Elmo's Fire is not a teen movie, it's a movie about young adults who have just left school and who are trying to find their place in the adult's world. It's about different expectations and hopes young adults have, their goals, and how they are trying to achieve them (more or less successfully). By the end of the movie they have all realized that being an adult is not as easy and great as they thought when they left school. ... Read More:

Looks in some respects like Taxi Driver, another film by the same director, Martin Scorsese and with the same main actor, Robert De Niro. In both films the themes are the lonliness of the (anti-)hero and his subversive attitude. This film is much more sophisticated. It is really a masterpiece.

This is without question one of the best thrillers of the decade. Unique I feel in the genre for its mix of comedy and violence. Similar but superior to Arthur Hillers much underrated Silver Streak. The combination of the world weary Walter Mattau and Roberts Shaws ice cold crook is I feel the balance that makes the film work so well. The supporting cast are all excellent including Ben Stillers dad Jerry. Any completists reading this you have to buy this DVD and give it pride of place in your thriller collection.

Catch - 22 [1970]

starring: Martin Balsam, Bob Newhart, Paula Prentiss, Martin Sheen, Richard Benjamin
directed by: Mike Nichols
October 07, 2002

The best thing about this off centre satire is that tries to be something different, it gets some sort of point across about the insanity of war, and it certainly has charisma. I honestly thought it would be getting better marks from reviewers here, but apparently the film fails to impress generally. It is quite a difficult movie to analyse I think, because it is clearly trying very hard to crystalise the essence of the famous book, if not include all the details of it, and I believe it must have at least in some measure been a success in this (although I admit to not having read it). It has good cinematic moments and a top performance by Arkin. I actually think it's a better than average satire and has some good surreal scenes defining the chaos that ensues when normal life is turned upside down by war. I assume its main trouble ... Tora! Tora! Tora! is a film concerned with the broad sweep of the attack on Pearl Harbour rather than select individuals. It is both detailed and accurate which gives it something many war films lack. However, it lacks pace and keeping up with the number of characters involved can be diffcult but overall it is a good film.
