This series was one of the silliest pieces of 'drama' I've ever had the misfortune to watch. It's po-faced approach to religious 'happenings' is laughable. What's more uncomfortable is it's apparent 'forcing of catholic religious beliefs' on the viewer - certain aspects of it's religion are presented as 'fact' and even when it deals with other religions (in one episode Muslim) it seems to be basically saying ("yeah, you're religion's okay but not as accurate as ours.") The horror aspect just seemed gratuitous and unneseccary, and Martin Shaw looks half-asleep most of the time. A silly and very dubious programme indeed.

...In that the last thing any TV show ought to extoll is the merits of a maverick judge. It's exactly the profession (apart from perhaps President of the USA) where the last thing you want is a maverick. You want consistency and logic!
So, that aside, you also have to contend with terrible, portentous acting, truly dire writing, and staging (of fights for instance) that look as though they're shot by the crew of early Grange Hill.
I couldn't, in even a remote chunk of good conscience, recommend this show to anyone.

An absolute gem, this series and the previous one are superb. John Deed is my hero, he struggles with his conscience occasionally but goes for what he thinks is right and best for the matter in hand. His indiscretions with the ladies show the weak side of him and reminds us that he is human after all. Can't wait to watch the next series!

I'm so, so glad that I didn't recognise Cheggers until the credits, that would have changed my whole viewing experience.
Anyway...
This is the best filmed version of Macbeth in my opinion, there have been better performances of individual roles but this one hits home across the board.
Without losing too much of the play, it is transformed by the understated transfer to film. So many productions of this and any other of Bill's plays are overblown, where acting becomes projection and the director sacrifices the plot in his/her attempt to set it in a hospice, or in space, or in the stone age, or... whatever. While this may interest the regular theatre-goer who knows the material inside out, it alienates the casual viewer, and, worse, confirms to the ... Read More:

I was delighted to find such a wonderful and exciting series available at an amazingly low price. I have rewatched the whole series and enjoyed every moment. It was like stepping back in time, Political Correctness had not been thrust upon us and the Ford Capri was most people's dream. What a pity that few modern series match the standard of 'The Professionals'. Pure nostalgia at its very best.

High Court Judge, John Deed, continues to take on the establishment using his sharp interlect and passionate beleif in justice. Uneasy relationships are strained to the limit when he forced to face the consequencesue of his stormy personal life.
In truth you will enjoy this much more if you are familiar with 'series 1 and 2', as many characters resurface from earlier episodes. Many new cases create serious moral waves in and out of court as Judge Deed finds it harder and harder to do the right thing.
This top quality series continues to be very enjoyable and addictive, so if you liked 'series 1 and 2', this is an absolute must for you.

By far the best new detective series that has been on BBC for a very long time. Martin Shaw plays George Gently with perfect understatement. Great storylines, wonderful acting, a real sense of nostalgia. Can't wait for the DVD.

This is without question one of the best thrillers of the decade. Unique I feel in the genre for its mix of comedy and violence. Similar but superior to Arthur Hillers much underrated Silver Streak. The combination of the world weary Walter Mattau and Roberts Shaws ice cold crook is I feel the balance that makes the film work so well. The supporting cast are all excellent including Ben Stillers dad Jerry. Any completists reading this you have to buy this DVD and give it pride of place in your thriller collection.

This season of The Professionals has a good selection of stories, some predictable and some clever. Most of all though, it's the interaction between the three main characters that's the best! Also, how they drive cars, the guns and the fights!!! Great entertainment, great pace, good stories and great characters. Forget modern stuff, be retro, watch The Professionals! Just try to stop yourself from humming the theme music!
