Ever wonder, who is Santa Claus, really? Where does he come from, how old is he? How in the world does he squeeze down a chimney, and how does he get in if there isn't a chimney? What's the deal here? Well, happily, the answers to these questions and more are finally answered, as the legend of Santa Claus comes to life as never before in `The Santa Clause,' directed by John Pasquin and starring Tim Allen. Scott Calvin (Allen) is an executive with a toy manufacturing company, he's divorced and has a young son, Charlie (Eric Lloyd), who still believes in Santa, but is at an age at which doubt is beginning to creep into the picture. And the fact that Charlie's mom, Laura (Wendy Crewson) has a boyfriend, Dr. Neal Miller (Judge Reinhold), who is ... Read More:

I have always liked this film, I cannot really say why. Probably because it's the ultimate feel good film with a happy ending. Just the right thing to watch when you want to be cheered up without having to think too much.
It's funny, maybe a bit cheesy and predictable in places but I know, I will watch it again and again. Luckily the eighties outfits are not too over the top, for me this film still watchable nowadays.
I have to agree with a previous review though, the dvd is really cheaply done, it looks as if it was made in the eighties as well!

This film is hilarious. Even my boyfriend will grudgingly admit it. I grew up from the age of 11 with this film, probably watching it once every couple of months. This is a tradition that my sister and I still carry on. It just gets better with age!
80s fans will probably recognize many of the young troopers (from Jenny Lewis to Kelli Martin to Tori Spelling), and I'm sure pre-teen girls are sure to like the movie for it's silly story, young female cast, and the hilarious antics of Shelly Long. It's a great little movie, appeals to all age groups and has some genuinely amusing lines, which I often find myself subconsciously quoting. Talking of quotes, here's a funny one:
Very good and enjoyed it a lot when I saw it, although after watching it 2 or 3 times got a bit bored. Obviously only suitable when seasonal, but otherwise a great Christmas movie for kids.

This is a well-crafted, very funny and expertly written film that succeeds in making me laugh on repeated viewings. Ackroyd and Matthau work so well together and, unlike so many comedies of this type, is not over the top. The delivery is just very subtle and the whole movie well-paced, with a clever and unpredictable ending. It's really a gentle but ever-so-slightly manic(?)satire on TV psychiatry. And just when you think it's all over, listen to the beautiful Michel Colombier end titles score, played by the Canadian Brass - two and a bit minutes of blissful music that should be regularly aired on Classic FM.

Poor old Christopher Guest, the guy is never going to escape the shadow cast by Spinal Tap. This one sees him and his team of regulars take on the folk music scene in another mockumentary. A bunch of old-time folk singers are getting back together to stage a tribute concert for their dead manager, and all sorts of mildly funny stuff that's not quite as funny as Spinal Tap happens along the way.
The cast here is about as talented a bunch of comic actors as you could ask for. Guest himself appears alongside his old Tap mates Harry Shearer and Michael McKean, plus you've got Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, Jennifer Coolidge, Fred Willard, and a whole lot more besides. Everyone is good, but Levy and Willard are particularly entertaining. ... Read More:

You may have noticed that word of this silent film HASN'T come down thru the generations extolling it as a classic not to be missed. That omission seems to be well deserved.
I found this to be a ponderous movie. It took almost a half hour to start on its journey to find the Blue Bird of Happiness. That time was spent in a claustrophobic room in a peasant's cottage introducing characters who would accompany the young boy and girl on their journey. Accompany. Most of them barely participated.
When the journey finally starts, it begins promisingly. Before long I realized that they were just going to visit various palaces (eg, the Palace of the Night) which were supposed to be magical. And, a graveyard for reasons that you should discover ... Read More:
