I watched this film as a child, then as an adult, and it always amazes me. Another truly heart warming Christmas film! Richard Attenborough portrays a wonderful Santa Claus, with his remarkable acting skills! It does not matter what age you are with this movie, old or young, it will warm your heart at Christmas time, with a few laughs along the way.

Sorry, but there's no excuse for the R2 copies of seasons two and three not being anamorphic transfers. Season two is cropped at the sides; season three requires you to zoom in. Get the R1 boxes instead. They're dual-sided discs, which isn't so great, but they have more extras and the boxes are slightly smaller. It's one of the best shows ever broadcast, so see it as it was meant to be seen!

I read Stephen King's excellent short-story prior to watching this and found it very creepy. But because it was a very short story, I couldn't imagine it successfully being adaptd to the screen. I was right.

The first 30 minutes or so are good and stay true to the story and also do it justice, but it just goes downhill from here. This is probably because the book only makes 30 minutes or film, so the plot has been padded out; with the inclusion of a sub-plot involving the main character's dead daughter, a terrible cliche!

As a film in it's own right, 1408 is pretty poor. As an adaption of the story, it is possibly one of the worst ever made. Save your money (and one-and-a-half hours of your life).

I wasn't lucky enough to catch this series on TV all those years ago and don't ever remember it being repeated. Found it by chance on Amazon and the great reviews made me buy it. It sat on my bookshelf for a couple of weeks until Sunday evening when I watched the first episode.
It got me hooked almost immediately and like the last reviewer I got through the entire 23 episodes in three days. It was totally addictive, like reading a great book you just can't put down - just one more chapter, until before you know it it's 3am and there's work tomorrow.
The show is more than 10 years old now but doesn't seem at all dated.
The photography is amazing, the cast impressive and there are stand-out performances from Daniel Benzali ... Read More:

I'm not American, and I'm not a bloke who like's sports. In fact I am a woman who generally prefers figure-skating to Ice Hockey. And yet I loved this movie. Originally it was one of a handful of rentals in a Dvd shop that we wouldn't have bothered with if there was anything else we would have thought worth watching; and that would've been a mistake. This movie made me laugh and cry in equal measures, and I found I held my breath in the way male friends assure me they do just before their home team scores a goal a few minutes towards the end of the match. A sweet and pleasant movie, best watched a cold wet sunday whilst curled up under a blanket. Not to be missed.

A film dealing with one of life's great problems - death. Clint fills the part of a reporter perfectly, juggling a troubled personal life with a moral, very public issue. I'm sure this film will provide a moral dilemma for many years to come.

Its what it says. Thriller. Not an action movie. Dont watch it expecting Die Hard or HEAT...

So, after you have got over that hurdle, its a really good film. Ok so its a bit 'dodgey' in places, and it isnt a film that has had millions and millions of pounds spent on it, but the effect of the film is really good. You really get the idea of being trapped inside your house and not being able to get out and the terror or what is going on, and not knowing what is going on.

There are parts that are, visually, excellent. The overview of the city as parts burst into flames are really effective, while the toxic ash falling down over the surrounding area looks great.

I bought this for £2 ish and it was most definitely worth it. Just ... Read More:

K-Pax [2002]

starring: Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Mary McCormack, Alfre Woodard, David Patrick Kelly
directed by: Iain Softley
January 05, 2004

A man is found saying strange things in New York Central Station. The police are called, and although the man seems perfectly affable, he continues to fail to make sense, so they take him to a psychiatric hospital. The man, who calls himself Prot, claims to be visiting Earth. He has left his own planet K-Pax some time ago, and he will have to return there before long. The Chief Psychiatrist at the hospital meets with Prot, and is drawn to him. He conducts long interviews with this self-confessed `alien', convinced that he will be able to unravel whatever trauma has led his patient to construct this extraordinary fantasy world for himself. Prot is phased by nothing, calmly eating his way through an entire fruit-bowl in the course of a session. ("Your fruits on earth are so ... Read More:

This is a minor gem, a daftly brilliant British comedy which never aspires to be anything more than Brit-gangster meets Ealing comedy. In the classic Ealing tradition, it trades heavily on the uniquely British comedic possibilities of a series of deceptions which spiral out of control, with increasingly unsustainable impersonations.

For some reason, the British fascination with identity comedy doesn't travel well, and unlike Hugh-Grant floppy haired romanticism, or anarchic Pythonism, these kind of films never seem to get good write ups. Amazon's own review (and also the Radio Times one), in my view, reflect this more than they reflect the film itself.

Anyway, I've watched this film twice, and fully intend to watch it five or six times more. It's charming, ... Read More:
