Buddy (Will Ferrell) has been raised at the North Pole. Papa Elf (Bob Newhart) is very proud of his adopted son. There's just one problem, Buddy is a human, not an elf. In addition to his enormous size, he doesn't have the talents for toy making that all his friends do.
When Buddy learns the truth, he sets out for New York to meet Walter (James Caan), his real father. Walter works for a children's book publisher, but his ideas aren't selling. He's also on Santa's (Edward Asner) naughty list. And Walter isn't thrilled to discover he has an adult son, especially one who insists on dressing like an elf all the time. Will he ever accept Buddy? Will Buddy ever fit in New York?
Having seen this film earlier in the year at the cinema, it has been a long wait to own it on DVD. It is already in my list of classics. Will ferrell is the best, easy on par with Anchorman and Talladega Nights. If u want a laugh a minute film get this.

Let's see, there's this kid who takes a DeLorean back into the past and then has to go back to the future before his photos fade but then he goes into the future and has to go back to the past because he left the Almanac and everybody turned bad and so he goes further back into the past and ends up in the Wild West where the Doc converts a train and they go back to the future and..... You following all this? I think they go back to the future again because he left the kettle on. Okay. The original is the best! - Terrific idea, cleverly and energetically put together and not dogged with the blinding back-and-forth perversity of its successors. You done good, Michael J., now go back and get Bill Hickock off that flying skateboard!

I'd almost given up on finding this, I remember Oliver Stone mentioning he was working on this but then heard little else, I should have known it wasn't a priority release and arrived only on R1 very low key. Though I tracked it down on Amazon recently for very reasonable price. Any chance to see more of this superb piece of the cinema is a chance I'm not gonna miss.
JFK remains probably my favourite film of all time and Nixon is it's companion piece. Watching it again I think the gap between the 2 films has got smaller, Nixon is easily Stone's 2nd best in my opinion.
Their is so many things to admire about this film, most of all is Hopkins without doubt alongside Stevens the Butler in the amazing Remains of the Day, this must ... Read More:

what a nice film. Surprisingly poignant and humourous, I do think Colin Firth is a pretty great actor and I have to say through clenched teeth that I feel the same way about irritating Minnie Driver!! There was such a nice gentle feel to this film that at the end you wish there was more to come. A great feel good film for your collection.

I love foster's films(Contact, panic room, nim's island). So I could not work out how I missed this one. It's another really great film with her and the cast.worth a night in to see,But not one of her classics.for that reason i recomend renting it or buying it cheap. As it is a must see but after that it will only collect dust, unlike other films there is nothing you won't understand or miss the first time you watch it.
