I guess looking at other reviews of this film this is one you either love or hate. Personally, despite the drawn our story and lack of action, I found it to be quite enjoyable. Pitt was on fine form and Casey Afflek played his part superbly (slightly nervous and edgy). The reflective direction, with inter-cut slow motion vistas, was especially good and the flat light used added to the feel of time and period this was set in. Knowing very little about the story I'm unable to say how close this kept to a) the book or b)reality, but it made for an interesting story in its own right and one that kept me watching most of the way through. Don't come to this film expecting a full on western, it focuses more on the relationships in the James brothers ... Read More:

Weeds seems to have come of age. Shame, I liked the slightly homely feel of the previous installments. Still great characters, though things are getting even darker, and (I have to say) one's sense of disbelief has to be suspended a little more frequently. Still tremendous fun! Could never warrant less than five stars compared to other shows...

Strange how many people find a short condemnation of something unhelpul.
Both my wife and I agreed that this was the most tedious film we have ever watched through to the finish. Much of the dialogue needed to be read in subtitles. The pace was deadly slow. This was a case where real life produced a wholly unattractive set of characters doing awful things. How ironic that the murder of a brutal thug should be followed by universal condemnation of his killer who in turn was murdered by someone susequently granted a pardon!
Historic curiousity attracted me to the film. I should have stuck to Wickpedia.

I bought Weeds not knowing anything about it other than the basic premise - suburban wife and mother takes to weed dealing after husband dies. I wasn't that impressed by the pilot episode but stuck with it and have been pleasantly surprised. The characters are allowed to develop nicely and although I wouldn't say that there are many out and out bits of hilarity it is gently comedic. It is quite dark in places and the only downside I can say is that occasionally some of the dialogue feels like it is deliberately trying to be crass or shocking. Overall though I would recommend it for anyone who likes comedy dramas.

'The Spiderwick Chronicles' is a pretty decent family fantasy adventure film that was actually a lot better than I expected it to be. It follows a family who move to the country and find a book that shows how to find various supernatural and fantasy creatures. They have to stop the book falling into the wrong hands and here the adventure begins. The child actors are quite good and there's none of that precocious cutsey-ness that can drive you mad in other films. The effects are great and the storyline is pretty good as well. This film is quite short at just under 90 minutes and I didn't check my watch once as I became completely captivated by the story. If you like fantasy films then this should be right up your street and makes for a great afternoons viewing when you ... Read More:

tried at least 5 times to get into this but couldn't get past the first 15 minutes. There are so many characters who only appear in disjointed, irritating little sections - as soon as you start to find one vaguely interesting, it switches to another. Some great names in this but what they were thinking of when they signed up to be in this

directed by: Jon Avnet

This film is so special, and as stated previously it has just about everything it needs to make it outstanding.

Right from the first moment I was hooked - the story carries you along, lifts you up and you're linked in to every emotion on the screen.

The characters are sympathetic but never over-the-top.

Okay, it's a woman's film, but even my husband enjoyed it, and said he could see it was a quality film. So, if you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for....Go Get It!!!

This is an entertaining enough effort, but cashes in too strongly on The Silence of the Lambs. Hopkins is good as usual, and Edward Norton is particularly good, but the rest feels a little contrived. Not enough of this gels, and it doesn't have the same unsettling vibe as "Manhunter."

Still worth seeing for some good bits, though.

You gotta hand it to John Grisham: Nobody has the various lawyer cliches down pat as well as him - in fact, it almost seems as if he invented or at least, reinvented many of them. As in most of his thrillers, we get a whole handful in "The Client": the slimy mafia lawyer, the power-hungry politician-to-be, the self-aggrandizing ambulance-chaser, the grandfatherly judge and, of course, the motherly family law practitioner who turned to legal practice after overcoming a few troubles of her own. I think that leaves only the greedy corporate attorney, his cousin the corrupt judge and their perpetual antagonists, the starving public interest lawyer and the inquisitive student prodigy unrepresented here; but still, not a bad collection for a single thriller, even by Grisham. (And that ... Read More:

First things first. If you don't like Allen's work you wont like this. However, if you like his humour you'll love this. He's done a great job in showing up luvies pretensions and self opinionated egos. It's basically a piss take at art and as usual Woody Allen does a brilliant job. Not hilarious, just ironically funny.
